Hi again, F1wild. What's your skin type -- oily, dry, etc? And what makeup do you wear? Powder, liquid, serum?,?
Regardless, on TOP of whatever sunscreen I'm wearing, I use Supergoop CC Cream as my foundation. It has 20% zinc, gives a beautiful, satin-y finish, medium + coverage.
I wear a 20%-ish zinc under, and I'm currently trying to find the best one for my skin currently. But we've discussed this, so you know that.
But again, whatever you choose to wear as your "base" sunscreen, and if you wear makeup, I'd recommend the Supergoop CC as extra protection, and a nice makeup wrapped into one.
If you contact their customer service, they'll send you samples.

Thank you for this discussion. I have not heard of the Elta MD brand and looked it up. I see that it is tinted, which is why I like Neutrogena. I like that the first ingrediants are titanium and zinc; dermatologists recommend this. I use sunscreen every day. I may have to try this.

F1wild, congratulations on being a survivor!! My dermatologist gives me loads of sunscreen samples every time I ask. That way you can try out many different brands and decide on one you like best.
I have fair skin with freckles and am in my early 50's. Currently, I use Clinique Super City Block, which is SPF 40. I like Clinique products because I have sensitive skin, and all their products are allergy tested and 100% fragrance free, which is important to me.
If you decide to get it, make sure you get some freebies. You can pick 4 minis free with a $35 order (and free shipping!) at Clinique's website. Lord & Taylor has a gift with purchase that I believe ends today (7/6/2014). You can order on line if there is not one near you.

About a year ago, I discovered the perfect facial sunscreen for me. It's Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV protector (Broad Spectrum) SPF 43. I wear it every single day.....I have been mixing it with my foundation, but my face looks so good that I now only wear it alone with some Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge, lipstick, and finish it off with some IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores. It comes in several shades....I'm fair so I use #1, and I have gotten it at HSN and now from my local Sephora. It is also oil-free and water resistant. The best thing about it is that it does not feel heavy on my face and since I've stopped wearing foundation, my face looks even better......just my experience, but hope it helps.

I am so happy you survived melanoma not only once but twice! Congratulations!!
My favorite facial sunscreen is White Sunscreen from DHC. It is a physical sunscreen that goes on like water. Not greasy! It is white but does not leave a white cast on my face. I have worn this for years. My family and I were in DC for a few days last week. We were outside a lot, and I did not get a speck of pink on my face.
My second favorite sunscreen is Elta MD Clear 46. I tried this based on my derm's advice. It is nice, too. Not greasy and goes on easily. My kids and I wore this to Disney World and stayed burn free.

Hi & Welcome,
First, I'm sorry to hear that you've had melanoma a few times.
Second, is there something that your derm recommends, specifically for melanoma survivors?
I know two ppl IRL who have had melanoma (I think both were stage 1-2, though). And for the one person, she not only wears a good sunscreen (something that her derm recommends), but she physically covers herself as much has humanly possible to have a real barrier from the sun's rays. Especially in those areas where her melanoma occurred (for this person, it was her chest). Long tees, wide-brimmed hats and clothing that has SPF in it are a must for her. There are quite a few brands doing the SPF clothing now, one is called Coolibar.
I would imagine that a physical face sunblock would work best, but I am not expert. What about zinc oxide? There are clear ones available now and some get good reviews. One brand I've been reading about lately is Sun Bum. They do a clear zinc oxide that gets good reviews.
Hth, and I'm sure you'll get great recs from the ladies on this board.

I'm sure being a survivor, she has had plenty of input from doctors.
She asked what we used.
Maybe if she took the advice of her doctors over the posters on a beauty board she would not have a recurring problem!
You have got to be kidding me!! Melanoma is an unpredictable and aggressive cancer. It can appear between derm appointments in very little time. I am sure the OP is doing what her doctor has told her to do. Try to be supportive. It won't kill you. I promise.

I just recently became a Melanoma survivor for the second time (Stage 3 in '98, Stage 4 in lung & brain in '13) and live in the ever sunny Metro Phoenix area SO really effective sunscreen is a must! I seem to try a new one every month searching for the perfect product. So, I'm interested in what you use, high-end, drug store and everything in between. Let me know your age group, skin category and any other information.
Hi F1wild.....keep the faith & continued wishes for a full recovery. I am a cancer survivor (not Melanoma) and I was in stage 4 many yrs. ago. I know you want The Perfect Suncreen & its a must you do use what your Dr. recommends for you. I do hope he has given you a few options to choose...
You must know all the safety precautions you should take when exposed to the elements. Just choose one that is recommended for you that feels good on your skin & leave it at that...Take Care

Hi, Dosey -- I just checked out the DHC and wanted to let you know it's on sale at their site -- $20, if you're interested.

Have to say I agree. I use the sunscreen my Derm advised and I only had a pre-cancer spot. I wouldn't mess around with this.
