I'm thinking of trying some type of facial scrub but I need it to be gentle. My skin is typically oily, and sensitive. With the seasons changing, I'm seeing a lot of flakiness and fine lines are accentuated. Tried JM oil and it broke me out and didn't help with the flakiness. I'm close to 50 and use Retin-A products so I've cut that back. I do use a clarisonic and I've been trying to use Dr. Denise Hydroshield but nothing is working.

Ladies, I know someone here will be able to guide me to the perfect product. Need your advice and input!!

I'm not an expert on oily or sensitive skin, but I know Paula's Choice has very good products specifically for your skin type (ive used her Resist Hydration line along with other products). One of the differences with her products is that there are no physical "scrubs", but exfoliation with AHAs and BHAs. I would highly recommend her products.

I have sensitive skin & use St Ives Apricot facial scrub 2 or 3 times a weeks. For a wash I use either Clean & Clear foaming cleanser or a green tea bar. I no longer have any blackheads & all are gentle. They are as good as the high priced products.

I was in the same position as you a few years ago--aging, but still oily skin--and nothing was working for me, either. I switched to Paula's Choice products (I had to try several samples before I found the right mix for me), and they have worked much better.

As F1wild above has said, Paula's Choice does not recommend physical scrubs. I had been using them for eons and thought I couldn't give them up. But I tried their routine, and voila! My oily but sensitive skin actually preferred doing without the abrasion. I do continue to use a Clarisonic, but only once a day now and I use the delicate brush heads.

Good luck--skin (along with so many other things!) becomes more challenging after age 50!

What I find works best for me ... simple, inexpensive ... a bar of Kiss My Face soap and some bath gloves. Gentle exfoliation, no residue in tub or shower. I use that method on my entire body - and have been doing so for years with excellent results.

Olay and aveeno make some good ones with Micro beads that are gentle.

If you do choose to use a manual-type exfoliator, make sure that it has gentle, polished beads that won't tear or irritate your skin. Stay away from St Ives Apricot scrub -- the walnut shell powder and cornstarch are abrasive and irritating.

You might want to give Dr. Denese's Light Resurfacing Peel a try. I love it. I use it twice a week. It's a chemical peel.

I'm 55, and I stopped using abrasive peels about 2 years ago. I'm much happier with the chemical ones.

Have you thought about trying the Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash? I used to use it and it was very mild.

I like Ole H Walnut scrub, but it does have walnut shell powder.
