The other day I purchased TARTE's new eyeshadow sticks and like them a lot.  However, I have oily eyelids - the only oily place on my body - and need to use a primer whenever I use shadows - powders or sticks.  Right now I'm using Ulta's eyeshadow primer and its fine for powder shadows but not so much for sticks.  It ends up really dry on my lids and therefore makes using the sticks not so great - hard to put on and hard to blend.

Is there a more creamy eyeshadow primer out there or do they all end up being dry.  I understand why they are dry but would hope that there is one out there a little creamier so it'd be easier to use the shadow sticks.

Thanks in advance for suggestions!

@JudyL

My suggestion for you is Urban Decay original eye shadow primer. This is what I use and it works very well.

@JudyL  Right now I’m using MAC’s paint pot in Painterly. It’s more cool toned and they have others.

@JudyL   Unfortunately, the purposes of an eyelid primer is 1. to dry an oily lid so shadow stays in place 2. to disguise any darkness, redness or veins on the lid. I like to use either a neutral toned waterproof eye shadow stick (Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, etc.) and others at the drugstore. Another favorite is Laura Mercier's Eye Basics. They come in skin tone shades or you can choose one a little darker and use it alone as a shadow. It comes in a tube w/ a doe foot applicator. I use shade Linen w/ my fair complexion.

If you use a traditional lid primer that's more creamy, you'll need to set it w/ a transluscent or setting powder. I prefer to set it w/ a light matte eyeshadow...always looking to save a step Smiley Happy...and then build your shadow look on top. Let me know if you have more questions.

I just started using MAC's Painterly, too, and love it.  I set it with a tiny bit of loose powder and my eyeshadow doesn't budge.

Re: Eyeshadow primer question

@JudyL  I would suggest using Mac Painterly pot which is a cool tone or Mac has one that is more of a warm tone. Those 2 are more of a matte finish. Since your lids are oily, Mac will not be drying but does really well for a eye primer & your Shadow Sticks will glide on without a problem. HTH.

MAC has a great primer. I use sticks and powder...no problems.

Re: Eyeshadow primer question

@JudyL  .. someone on these boards ( I think either @Shanus or @monicakm)   recommended the Alter Ego Eyeshadow Base.   I ordered it and used it for the first time yesterday.   OMG!!!  It is the best eyeshadow primer I have ever used.   I applied my makeup in the morning and when I got home last night it looked like I had just put it on.  It didn't budge.  I love it!!
