I use and like Neutrogena Oil-free eye makeup remover.

I didn’t say put it IN your eye. Just use it on a cotton wipe with your eyes closed to remove the waterproof  mascara. 

A lot of those eye make up removers have a fair amount of sulfates &/ or alcohols in them. Much more caustic to the eye. 

We all have to do what feels comfortable to ourselves.

I use Avon's eye makeup remover.  It is inexpensive and gets the job done.  I put a little in my hand while I am showering and rub it in then rinse and follow with my regular facial cleanser.  I too wear makeup very seldom.

I use coconut oil to remove eye makeup.  It doesn't irritate my eyelids and takes off waterproof eyeliner and mascara completely.
