I've always used a separate eye cream, there are several that I like. Advertising says the under eye skin is more delicate and needs a separate product and I accepted that. Others believe that it's a marketing gimmick and that eye cream is just repackaged moisturizer, that your facial moisturizer is fine for the under eye area.
I'm going to experiment for the next little while, a couple of weeks or so, by setting my eye cream aside and only using my AM and PM moisturizer over my eye serum and see what happens. I started this morning and I honestly like how soft and smooth the area feels.
Which camp are you in?

I am in the eye cream camp. Facial moisturizers are more intense than eye cream. The area around the eye is delicate and may develop some sensitivities because of the strength of the facial moisturizer.

I didn't used to use a seperate eye cream, but now I do. Some facial (or general) moisturizers can & have irritated my eyes & made them burn, especially if they contain actives. I do use my serums underneath my eyes but not on my eyelids.

I use an all in one Retinol, Niacinamide and Vit C, all over my face and then a small amount under my eyes. I get it through a compounding pharmacy through my Dermatologist. No extra eye creams.

I use separate eye creams/serums, but in addition to all the other things I put on my face & neck. I use them primarily as an additional layer of protection.
Since the eye area is thinner skin texture, I always felt it was important to keep that area moisturized. As soon as I wake up - eye serum. After a few hours when I do my routine, I put on added eye protection. When it is very cold outside (and I'm walking), I'll throw on additional eye cream.
It doesn't have to say "eye" on the package. But I do stick with a few things that do.

@JeanLouiseFinch - Looking forward to hearing your results! What a great idea.
I believe it's better to have a separate eye cream. However, I've been lazy and just use my serum and moisturizer. So I'm curious to hear your results. ![]()

@JeanLouiseFinch - I'm an eye cream user and feel the one I use - Pacificia collagen eye cream - works really well for me.
This is an interesting post. Thanks for starting it.
Edited to add: @JeanLouiseFinch @San Antonio Gal @Harpa - I'm curious to know what eye serum you use under your eyes. My undereye area seems dry a lot of times and wondering if usng a serum and an eye cream would help.

Eye creams on the upper lids are made so they don't migrate downward into your eyes which regular moisturizers might do. Otherwise using regular moisturizers under the eyes is just fine.

@JeanLouiseFinch I'm in the separate eye cream cap. I feel face moisturizers can be too rich for under eyes and can cause puffines. Under eye creams that are lighter in texture make it also easier to apply concealer over.
I usually do a test on my inner arm with my reg. moisturizer rubbed in and then the eye cream next to it. The eye cream usually disappears quickly because it's thinner. If the eye cream is thick like the face moisturizer, then it's a NO for me. Even my heavier night time under eye cream is lighter weight than my heavier winter moisturizer.

@On It My particular facial creams have active ingredients I wouldn't put under my eyes. Some moisturizers (if you read the caution portion) can state to keep away from eye area.
