So I'm reading all the politics out there and one of the representatives had a special interest in the US trading relations with China.....I guess EL donated somewhere

between 100 to 250K....

so a company wouldn't donate that kind of money if they didn't have an iron in the fire, are these cosmetics all made in China?

Where do you find this out...been researching and can't find a country of origin.

To sell in China, you must comply with their laws and they require animal testing. This is why many customers now boycott companies once they start selling their: EL owns a HUGE number of cosmetic lines.

A simple google search will bring up everything. : )

Re: Estee Lauder Question

[ Edited ]

WE OPERATE ON A GLOBAL BASIS, WITH THE MAJORITY OF OUR NET SALES GENERATED OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES

And this:

ELC’S REGIONAL ACTIVITY
  • The Americas
This region is our largest in terms of sales, accounting for 42 percent of total global sales. Latin America, while still small, is one of our fastest growing sub-regions.
  • Europe, the Middle East and Africa
This geographic area contributes the highest percentage of our operating income and includes our Travel Retail business, which has enjoyed huge sales growth during the last two years. We have also posted solid gains in well-established European countries, as well as in emerging markets, including Russia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
  • Asia/Pacific
Greater China is driving significant sales gains in this area. China has become our second largest market in the region after Japan, fueled by a rapidly growing middle class that desires luxury, aspirational brands. Sales in this region are heavily skewed toward skin care, our largest product category.

Geez OP, I read your quesiton completely wrong and I apologize.

El has a huge factory in NY. They make their own products in their own facilities where as most contract through labs/companies that make products for multiple lines (not owned by EL).

It wouldn't suprise me if EL was going to open a plant in China simply to get product quicker to parts of the world/larger customer base.

I'm going to read up on this; thank you for posting the question!

I will be interested in whatever information is found on this subject.  I have been a loyal user of one of their perfumes (Estee) since the 70's.....  I've found that in all those years the product has remained the same, quality, etc.  Only recently have they changed their bottle to a smaller size and upped their price a bit more...

If you can get to a store that sells Estee Lauder, you can look at the package of any product to find country of origin. You can also call the company and ask, especially if ou have a specific product in mind.

But there are reasons for wanting trade relations with a country other than manufacturing products there.

It is important to know that as a previous poster said if a product is sold in China, it must pass animal testing regularions.

Just as important to know is that if a product is made, but not sold, in China it does not require animal testing.

This is actually NOT 100% true- the Chinese government allows a few other methods to prove safety but it is more expensive so most companies, like L'oreal, choose to test on animals instead.

And yes, L'oreal DOES test on animals if that matters to anyone.
