My first experience buying from ebay I paid for a product and I never received it from the seller. They didn't even try to pretend there was a tracking number just took my money and then got amnesia about it.

I am glad to see it doesn't happen often.

If this happens to a buyer.............either not receiving your item or receiving it in ""significantly not as described"" (SNAD) condition............you will be made whole. Ebay has a Money-Back Guarantee Policy.

At the end of the day though I didn't get the item I had wanted to buy. At the time and this was at least 8 years ago - my kids were younger and I was really busy. It was only $10 and I just let it go rather than file statements etc. It was a significant hassle to try to get your money back (or at least that's what I remember).

I just walked away disappointed.

A note on buyer feedback - I only buy from sellers with 100% FB. Click on the % next to their name and check how high their stars are (5 is the highest). Read through some comments. I've seen buyers leave positive FB but say a negative thing like, slow shipping or not well packed or missing xyz.

Make sure to check out the cost for shipping. Some sellers list a low cost for the item to grab your attention then charge an exorbitant s/h charge.

Bidding.............If you like something, it's best to put it on your Watch List. If you place a bid several days before the auction ends, other people will start bidding up the cost. Bid within the last 10 to 15 minutes if you can. But beware that people use sniping services to automatically outbid another buyer's bid in the last 5 seconds.

Bidding can be tricky. Look for Buy It Now sales. You'll know the cost and s/h straight up.

When you do a Search, you can choose to see only the BINs (Buy It Now). Across from that you will see a SORT BY with a drop down menu. I always check Price & Shipping Lowest Cost First. That way you start with the lowest cost first.

Ebay has a learning curve. Do a search for 1 product to start. Look for lowest prices and free shipping. Check FB.

Come back here with any questions. We'll be glad to help.

I buy and sell on ebay and I used to post on the forums where people came with questions.

Oh.......sign up for PayPal. https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/pay-on-ebay

To find the Site Map scan to the very bottom of the home page of ebay. It's a great resource. Check out BUYING RESOURCES AND REGISTRATION.

Good luck! Smiley Happy

I bought a few things many years ago when it was by check or CC and heard many horror stories. Now with paypal and that buyers are able to see the sellers history and ratings it has really changed. Also with paypal you have an advocate and can go directly to them for help. Sellers take their ratings very seriously...if you have many complaints you will no longer be able to sell on ebay.

@ Irishrose 136, @croemer, and other beauties, What are."sniping services" and does the shipping cost remain stable ( even when the bid is escalating in price ).I am so glad and thankful that I posed these concerns because when I did check the sellers feedback on 2 items, they were not so stellar which warranted me NOT making a purchase.I did set up a Paypal account but the CC on file is not from my primary- I'm a bit reticent about mixing my bill money with my 'pleasure' money, lol.

Hi aziza, Yes, there are sniping services. Essentially what they do is log into your account and place a predetermined bid with a couple of seconds left on the auction. You get automatic "snipes" if you set your highest bid when you initially bid on the item. Yes the shipping charges stay stable.

as far as feedback, looking at a sellers feedback is important, but I would not limit yourself to just 100% positive feedback. There is just no pleasing some people. Instead, click on the # of neg and neutral feedback and read them and see for yourself. Some will give negative and write "ok" so not fair. Also in turn, as a buyer, don't jump to leave bad feedback, give the seller a chance to make things right if you are not happy. That being said, lots of rare items and great deals to be found on ebay. good luck!

Also, don't limit yourself to free shipping items, because most of those sellers just tack the shipping charge onto the price of the item. Do the math and find the best deals

Thank you so much @ Croemer and @ jewelsluvsbeauty ! I knew I did the right thing by bringing my.questions and concerns to this forum. There is such an incredible wealth of knowledge, experience, expertise, and wisdom that the ladies( and guys! ) on these boards possess. There are also.some topics and 'interesting' opinions that can become very dicey and heated but for the most part I absolutely love reading the various opinions and information regarding products and personal member 'situations'.To me,this is an elite group of ladies who are also warm, funny, bright, compassionate,AND not afraid to EXPRESS their Opinions. Thanks again ladies :-) !
