I highly recommend e.l.f. lip exfoliator. It comes in a tube and it's shaped like a lipstick. You simply apply to clean, damp lips, rub it in, then remove with a moistened cotton ball or pad. I apply lip balm afterward. Works like a dream and it's only $3 at Target!

On 2/16/2014 FUTURE said: Maybe try switching your toothpaste. I switched to Toms, and that has helped a lot. Also, dermstore lip quench is the best balm, IMO. These two changes made a DRASTIC improvement in my lips -- even in this cold and super windy winter weather.I've never heard of this and went to check it out. Excellent reviews on this lip quench and on sale with free ship this weekend. I'm going to give this a shot too. Thanks for mentioning dermstore.

OUCH!!! Balm = menthol....stop using immediately. Nothing is better than that kind of balm. Exfoliate?? Why?? Stop doing that immediately. Bless your heart...it's was painful to read your post!
Two words...Lip Smackers = cheap, available anywhere, beeswax is soothing...just get one from the grocery store ($2ish) & wear 24/7/365...even under your lip color. Easy fix!!!

stop using lip balm! most of it is very drying actually and it can't seal in any moisture if there isn't any; I have found blistex daily lip conditioner, in a very small round jar, to be the best thing I have used; it is usually in the drugstore with the chapsticks, etc. Nivea also makes some very good lip treatments that look like lipsticks...not balms, but they feel very slick and liquid when you apply

Blistex Silk & Shine - grey tube in purple packaging. Most healing thing available, imo.
Be sure to not be using anything that has "plumping" or tingling properties, drink lots of water, and cut back on anything astringent, including mouthwashes and minty toothpaste (baking soda is a very soothing substitute for regular toothpaste, and salt water is a healing/antiseptic mouthwash).
Good luck - read ingredients on everything you use.
