Dr. D's Damage Reversal Pads- HELP!!

I just got 2 jars of 20 pads each. When I opened them, they were dark brown and have a really strong smell. IS THIS NORMAL????

QVC was out, so I bought them on eBay, and the seller says this is normal. I was grossed out, and thought, at first sight, that they were moldy.

Please, if anyone can help, I need to know before I return my purchase.
