This is so sad...

Tina is a comedian...( want to clarify that making fun of anyones appearance IS MEAN SPIRITED )

Unfortunately (if true) one never knows what will set a person that is in deep depression off..

Since it is a ""mental health"" issue dealing with the human brain it is simply not fair to assess ""blame"" on a comedy writer..

Fighting for them.( formerly EMTHeart)

This is incredibly sad news to hear. I use some of his products and really like them. I listened to his Sirius radio program all the time.....he was such a hoot!!! For quite awhile his show has not been on. I didn't know if it had been moved to a different time slot, or if it had been cancelled. Seems the later may be the case now. In my area it aired on Saturdays at noon. His program was interesting, he gave out great information, and it was just a lot of fun to listen to. I can still hear his crazy laugh. It makes me smile right now.

So very sad.

pupwhipped.....yes, it is very sad.

BTW, I love your nic!!!!!! It's hilarious. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Thank you, kittywhipped. I like your nic, too. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

it's being reported that he hanged himself. devastating to think how he must have felt. such pain.

"Famed dermatologist to the stars 'hanged himself' aged 65 at his Miami mansion after being left 'devastated' by comparisons to Martin Short's doctor character in the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."

you see how cleverly the media stated this? Yes, that does seem to want to point to attributing this parody to suicide. But to me, that is just irresponsible journalism. They want you to come to that conclusion. He may have been devastated when that skit was done but since someone posted an interview in Allure about it, that would have been awhile ago. They put magazines together months before publication.

Has he been depressed all this time and finally decided to commit suicide over it? I still say to become depressed enough to commit suicide takes a lot of doing, depression bad enough that most people would shows outward signs of it, like not being able to work, and lots of multiple factors. One skit may be hurtful for sure, but enough to cause suicide?

I'm done with P.C. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. It's easier.

I agree with SusyQ3. It is unfair and simplistic to blame someone's death on a comedy spoof. Famous people have been lampooned throughout history. I cannot imagine that any comedian sets out to destroy another human being through humor. If Dr Brandt was suffering from an illness he could have been emotionally vulnerable but there has to be far more to this story that none of us knows. No one dies of parody.

I don't know if anyone here watches Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix (created by Tina Fey) but there a scene in the show where Jane Krakowskis and Ellie Kempers characters go to a dermatologist named Dr. Franff who is played by Martin Short and he looks very much like Dr. Brandt with regard to how pulled and filled his face is. Sources are saying this really devastated Dr. Brandt. I hope that isn't true. I watched the episode where Martin appeared as the Dr. and I knew right away they were spoofing Dr. Brandt.

I honestly never knew anything about him and had no idea what he looked like until today. I didn't realize that was spoofing him. I hope this isn't true because if so, it just goes to show how hurtful it can be to people when you make fun of them for their looks or whatever. I love TF and know she would never had meant any harm but even seemingly funny and harmless things about someone's looks can be so devastating to someone, especially if they are prone to depression. Very sad about his passing, whatever the reason.

I know, I thought the same thing. I am sure Tina Fey would be devastated if this turns out to be true. She has never seemed malicious to me. I hope none of this is true. We will find out soon I am sure.

Really?? Are we talking about the same Tina Fey???? She loves skewering others for a laugh. She isn't a nice woman.

I just read this!! There is a columnist from the Miami Herald that says her source told her that he was suffering from depression and committed suicide. I don't think that has been confirmed. Regardless of how he died, RIP.

there is not one thing in this article or the article published in the Miami Herald that mentions suicide. Why would you post this gossip and where did you get this supposed information from "the source"? Just because they report he was devastated by the mocking of him does not mean we can make that jump to suicide without any facts or coroners report.

I think it is just not nice to post this type of unconfirmed gossip about something this tragic. I saw him on television and he did seem like a very nice man.

they allude to it. it's a devastating loss. he seemed to be the most kind man who wore his heart on his sleeve.

all I read was that he had an illness. It may be true in the end but why must anyone post gossip?

More Breaking News:

It is the elderly, particularly older white males that have the highest suicide rates. And among white males 65 and older, risk goes up with age. Robin Williams was 63. Dr. Brandt was 65. Depression is real. Mental illnesses are real, treatable, illnesses, and it would be nice if people in the US would pull their heads out of 'wherever' and realize that.

But meanwhile, let's help keep that stigma alive and well.
