Re: Don't Know Where Else To Go

@SilleeMee

The products I received from my derm were too harsh.  When I returned after one month, she told me to stop using them immediately.  Didn't have any luck with other products she had to offer.  Just stopped going.

As others have mentioned, I believe there might be an issue with the type of cleanser. That might be too harsh which would cause the dryness. Skin will react to dryness by producing more oil in an attempt to counteract the dry state of things. Oil glands over-react when you disrupt the skin's acid mantle.

Depending on the degree of acid mantle damage, it can take a day or two for the pH and normal oil levels to return to normal, both of which are effected by anything harsh like cleansers that are not the right pH.

Restoring the ceramide component of your skin is likely to help. But you have to add it topically or ingest supplements containing them. Ceramides are like a natural wax that prevents water loss from skin.

@Ifeelwicked

DHC - hmmm, I recall receiving samples years ago.  Philosophy facial cleanser burned.  Have sensitive skin.  Had to return it.  Your moisturizer suggestion is on my list!  Oops, actually that was @JeanLouiseFinch suggestion.

Re: Don't Know Where Else To Go

The reason I changed from Merle Norman to Clinique in the late 80s was to get away from perfumes and fragrances on my face. My face over night started breaking out and itching. There was a time I couldn’t wear one stitch of makeup and I was somewhere in my 30s.

I may try different product lines through the years but I always end up at Clinique.

Good of luck in your search.

Slather face with Ponds and let sit a minute.

Wipe off with a warm washcloth.

Promise this works.

Balanced my oily patchy face.

Re: Don't Know Where Else To Go

@pommom ~ I turned 46 last month and decided to give Olay Regenerist a try.  I've heard awesome things about it and have to tell you it's all true!  I never really had any issues with my skin but wanted to "step up my game" and start taking better care of myself.  I apply the whipped with spf25 in the morning and use regular regenerist at night.  I used to have to reapply moisturizer throughout the day due to dryness but don't have to do that anymore.  I should mention the cream isn't greasy, either.

If you go to their facebook page you can ask them which formula would be best for you.  They seem to respond to lots of questions and concerns and offer good advice.

Best of luck in your search!  :-)

I know you probably didn't want to read this but maybe a dermatologist can help you. Sounds like you have come to the end of your road and have very few options left.

@SilleeMee  I agree. The OP may have other skin conditions going on...oily, then if no moisturizer, itchy areas.

I am 63 and my skin is still oily I swear by Skin Cecuticals B5 Gel, there is a dupe you can get on Amazon, this was given to me by my dermatologist years ago

@I am still oxox  Don’t know about the Skinceuticals dupe, but the night cream I use from Skinceuticals is for dry skin and also has an oily skin formulation. It has AHA acids in it.

Re: Don't Know Where Else To Go

@Drythe. Sounds like you have a wonderful derm. They should always have options at all price points and explain ingredients, too. I stay away from derms who sell skincare w/ their name on it. That’s the line they’ll push...ethical or not.
