I really don't know but I would call first. Target can be somewhat difficult about returns (that's my experience). They always want a reason where some stores never ask.

Sorry, that's just not the way the economics of this work. Cosmetics companies make more money by allowing a generous return policy, not less. Otherwise they wouldn't do it.

this is no longer true. many companies have stopped allowing returns of cosmetics due to those who have taken advantage of generous return policies.

just a few stores that no longer accept returns on opened cosmetics.

saks, no longer accepts returns on opened cosmetics.

bon ton, no returns on used cosmetics.

neiman marcus, no longer accepts returns on opened cosmetics.

beautybar, no longer accepts returns on opened cosmetics.

i dont either.....i just pass it along to someone who will use it, like my mom , kids, family member, or a friend. sometimes even my kids friends will say they want it.

And have you seen prices decreasing as a result?

I'm not familiar with beautybar...but the rest of those look like B&M locations that sell higher-end products with testers available, or at least lines where it is possible to obtain samples/find testers before committing to purchase. My point was more about drugstore product lines that you have to buy in order to know if something will work for you or not. And I was talking about the cosmetics producers, not the retailer, which I'm sure faces a different profit and pricing decision than the cosmetics company itself.

I'm wondering if it's more expensive (i.e., retailers are more penalized) to return high-end products since those should be returned less. That would make sense. I'm sure it's a different structure.

It's not how I operate either. I will never return cosmetics. I made the choice, so I live with it.

I agree. I just think you bought it, you live with it. If you want to try it out first, go somewhere else where that is possible. Why on earth should everyone pay for people who think their purchases are testers?
