Do you like bar soaps?

There are some beauty bigwigs (like Paula Begoun) that have said that bar soaps are bad for skin and that you should always use a liquid cleanser. What has been your experience? I have purchased natural bar soaps from sites like etsy and never had any problems with them. I'm allergic to coconut derivatives so it is very rare for me to find a cleanser that I can use because most surfactants are coconut derived. The only cleansers I've found I've been able to use are liquid and bar soaps made of 100% olive oil and also powder cleansers.
