Yep, they come in kits. "Clairol Root Touch Up" is excellent, and has been very highly-rated for years now.
Also , how often do the roots have to be re-colored ? Every 2 weeks I suppose ?
Usually, midway between colorings. For example, touch up your roots every 3 weeks if you do your regular color every 6 weeks.
Note: if you'll be using demi or semi -permanent color, it's recommended that you don't use a touch-up kit, as the dye in it is permanent color. "Roux Tween Time Hair Crayon" is great; just wet/moisten it and apply.

Hi YellowLabMom, it sounds like we have similar hair issues! My gray is at the front too. Last time I had my hair done, I went to a new stylist recommended by a friend whose hair I admire. She did highlights with color rather than bleach and I think my hair looks less gray or whitish in the front. I go next week and I'm going to find out the brand because I'm curious. Sorry I'm not any help about doing it at home, but I like reading the responses to your post.
I have often thought about trying to touch it up around 4-5 weeks after having it done, but then I'm afraid I will botch it in a major way and end up paying more to get it fixed.
BTW, I love your online name. I have a big (80lb.), goofy, yellow Lab girl who is almost 7 yrs. old and acts like she's 2. She had surgery in February because she ate a sock and it caused a blockage. She's a high maintenance diva, but I love her to pieces!

I did my own color for years and even though I was buying a product for covering gray hair, it wasn't working. Additionally, I was missing areas of new growth in the back. So, even though it's expensive, I started going to the hairdresser. The result if much better!
