Do retinol products work on your hands?

I am very hesitant to try retinol on my face since I have sensitive skin. But I sure would like to try something on the back of hands to lighten up sun spots ( ok, old age spots). Would retinol be something to try, or do you have a better suggestion?

@pegomyheart  Most definitely. Whatever skincare applied to face, continue down to neck and chest...hands, also. Just be sure if you use Retin A on hands, with all hand washing during the day, you must reapply spf. Retin A makes skin more sun sensitive. BTW, I apply my Vit. C E serum on my face and those areas mentioned......and hands.

Re: Do retinol products work on your hands?

Yes!  I have used retinol since I was in my 30's (I believe that's when).  It has worked really well on my face and neck.

My problem is I often forget to use the retinol on my hands and also because I wash my hands so often...

When people guess my age at early 50's (I'm 72 this year) it's because I have very few wrinkles or brown spots and (because my hair is thin I wear a wig).  Sometimes if I have time to carry out a full conversation with them (often comments are made in passing) then I'll say, "Well I look my age when you look at my hands".

It's true.  They don't look as bad as someone who's never used retinol, but they don't look (I think) like someone in her early 50's either.

So my vote is yes, it does work if you can remember to use it every day when you won't be immediately washing it off and (more importantly) remember to use sunscreen (to prevent dark spots) every single day...

As long as I've been using Retinol products, I've rubbed the excess onto the backs of my hands.  Same with Vitamin C serums and other moisturizers.  Whatever I apply to my face and neck, I also apply on my hands.  Just my opinion, but I'm sure my hands would look more wrinkled and old now if I had not applied the Retinol cream.

@Annabellethecat66  ITA and have used Retin A for almost 35 yrs. It can take decades off your face...never too old to start either since exfoliation is always beneficial. Hands: besides Retin A & spf, gloves doing dishes, lots of hand cream and I add argan oil to moisturizer for hands in winter.

Re: Do retinol products work on your hands?

@Shanus I agree with everything you said.  I don't think most people realize how important it is to get the dead skin off of your face, hands, etc every day.

That's mainly all I do, plus moisturize it/them.

I am terrible about my hands though because I kinda have OCD about gems (I don't have much immunity for fighting germs so I'm very, very careful) and sometimes I might use hand sanitizer to the extreme.

Take care and glad I'm not the only person who uses a good exfoliant.  Annabelle.
