One. I'm very fair with a "neutral" undertone.
When I find one that works, I use it until they discontinue it. Then start all over again on my search for a foundation.
I'm currently using something from Avon ... it's a perfect color match. I've used this one for a few years now. Always have several in the stash to tide me over just in case it's discontinued.

@Lipstickdiva wrote:I normally am a 1 foundation woman. But I accidently ordered the wrong Tarte foundation and wasn't crazy about it so when IT was having TSV, I ordered an institutional size of the CC cream illumination that came with a brush. Then Q2 was having a big deal of an IT powder foundation that was 2 with a brush and I ordered that.
On top of all that, my local Giant Eagle decided to get rid of their cosmetics and had everything 75-90% off so I bought an ELF serum foundation, Revlon Photoready Instant Filter foundation and L'Oreal Infallible.
So now I have 6 foundations and I do alternate between all of them, depending on the situation. I've been trying to use the CC Illumination on the regular because it's one of the oldest. I'm not sure I'll ever get through the Tarte because I just don't like it. I should just cut my losses and toss it. The ELF Serum foundation is really light coverage so I generally use that on the weekends. I just slap it on with my fingers. The Revlon is quick to use as well because it came with a sponge applicator right on the top so I don't have to use anything else to apply it. The IT powder is very easy to brush all over my face but it's a little drying for my skin. I think that will be a better summer foundation.
It will be a long time before I "need" a foundation.
@Lipstickdiva "institutional size of the CC cream" cracked me up!
I've heard about that Revlon Photoready Instant Filter foundation. I may have to try that.

I used to wear a Lancome foundation exclusively, but they discontinued it and I wasn't satisfied with the replacement they offered me. That was when the search began. At some point I settled on a combination of iT CC+ Illumination and Tarte BB Cream. Individually, they were horrible on my skin, but combined it worked. But, then I started getting tempted by other offerings. I still have the iT & Tarte combination that I'll probably wear more come summer since it does contain an SPF. I also have some No 7 Stay Perfect which is just OK. I have Doll 10 HydraGel which I usually wear as a quick minimal makeup look although the color is a bit yellow. My current favorite is NARS Sheer Glow foundation. That's my go-to for any full makeup event. It's a perfect match and gives me the best finish.

@SilleeMee wrote:Two. I use one in my normal shade and another slightly darker one to apply to the planes of my face where I would naturally get color from the sun...like a bronzer, sort of. That gives dimension to my face and I think it makes it look more natural and not all one color.
@SilleeMee I bow to you! Very impressed about using the darker tones to the planes of your face where the sun would naturally hit.
I have tried this and cannot seem to get it right. At least, I tried it but "see it" too much and fear it doesn't look like sun-kissed at all on me, but paint by numbers or Barney Rubble's five o'clock shadow. I'm going to keep at it to try to get it right.
I do use Laura Geller's Baked Bronze-n-Brighten (sold out now here), some days in the winter only. I use it lightly here & there & there to get a little more warmth to my complexion.

@Caaareful Shopper I have a few different "looks" w/ the same makeup products. For every day, it's BB Tinted Moisturizer w/ concealer for point touch ups where needed. Next step up is Tinted Moisturizer and BB Foundation Stick for more coverage. My full face makeup (seldom) is the foundation stick all over.
I use 2 shades of the foundation stick at the same time. I have Alabaster (the lightest BB shade) & Porcelain (next to lightest). Alabaster stick goes on center of face to keep that area light and bright. I apply Porcelain everywhere else.

I think maybe because I use a powder foundation and that makes it easier to blend the two shades and make it look right. It's really not that hard once you get the right shade. I don't think I could do that with a liquid foundation...I've never tried that anyway. @Caaareful Shopper

I use 3 possibly 4 depending. It all depends on how much time I have, how bad are my allergies affecting my skin and how long am I going to be in the sun.
Laura Geller Balance & Brighton is used when I have only 5 minutes to pull my face together and get out the door.
Dr.Denese Day Cream is used when I'm going to be in the sun anywhere from an hour or more.
Bobbi Brown foundation stick is used when I have time and want my full face of makeup.
I just ordered the Doll10 foundation which I'm hoping will replace either the Bobbi Brown or Laura Geller. With the way these two companies have been sold and repurchased I wanted to think ahead and find a substitiue before I was left without a solution.
All of the above I am very pleased with the results. It's my treat to me to have a selection.

@Fressa That's exactly how I feel -- "Like a treat to have a selection."

I do have a small array of foundations that I like to alternate. Currently I have Hourglass Vanish Stick, Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue, Wander Nude Illusion,Tom Ford Stick Foundation, Laura Mercier Lumiere Radiance Foundation and La Mer Soft Fluid. These are all very nice for dry skin which I have. Probably my favorite is the Hourglass Stick and Laura Mercier. My only problem with LM is the pump stops working after awhile. However, the color match for me is the best out of all of these.

@Shanus I'm going to try again to get foundation shading just right. Sounds like you and @SilleeMee have it on point -- lovely.
