I've had a light brown, slightly raised mole on the back of my left hand for longer than I can remember.  I may have been born with it.  On the right hand, in the same spot, I have a light brown sunspot.  It might have been there for about 3-4 years.  That's the only one and it hasn't changed.  It looks like a light freckle.  It's very small and I'm probably the only one that has ever seen it.  It doesn't bother me, but here is my question.  I've been using the same skincare on the back of my hands as I do my face for over 3 years.  The mole has faded to the same color as my skin.  Totally undetectable.  A derm wouldn't detect it.  It's still ever so slightly raised but I think that even that has diminished.   I assume it's my skincare unless it's common for moles to disappear on their own.  But, the same skincare hasn't diminished the sun/age spot on the other hand.  I would take a picture of the mole but you can't see it lol.  Only because I know where to "feel", is how I know where it is (was).  Can otc skin care remove a mole but not a sun spot?  And before you ask, I put the same amt of skincare on both hands.  I'm not just rubbing excess on my left hand with my right hand.

Thanks ladies.

Common moles can be dynamic and some never change.

Mine have never faded.  They should be examined by a doctor annually for changes that could indicate cancer.

@monicakm    I've had a Dr tell me to keep an eye on a mole because he didn't like how dark it was.  He said if it became any darker or changed to make sure I schedule an earlier appointment with him.

So maybe if there's any change in appearance you should definitely go see someone.❤️

@monicakm

Schedule the derm appt.  Moles can be any color, even colorless.  I make a list of anything I want to be checked out...it saves time and brings peace of mind after the appt.

Just this past December, the derm. didn't like the look of a small bump on my mid-back.....I ended up with stitches.  I was very glad that I had made my annual appointment earlier....otherwise, our FL trip might have had to be postponed.

A word of caution, sometimes small "things" cam migrate to another body part.  A cousin had a golf ball-sized lump removed from his lung; the lab report came back stating it had originally started out as skin cancer.

An acquaintance succumbed to stomach cancer akin her early 30's....it had started out as a mole on her stomach.  She spent a lot of time at the beach but I don't know about her use of sunscreen.

Moles deserve very careful attention.....Please be careful !

@monicakm   I have had two moles fade away.  I had one since I was a baby, on the inside of my left wrist. My mother told me that when I was toddler, I would try to pick it off. I probably thought that it was chocolate.

As an older adult, it faded away. There is just a little raised flesh color spot where the mole had been.

I also had a "beauty mark" on my face. It was small mole about a half inch above the left corner of my mouth. Back in the 50s -60s, it was popular for women to apply a "beauty mark" to their face. I think that even went back to earlier times. ( Like Marie Antionette).

I liked having it and it was natural. As an adult, it started to fade and I would darken it a little with an eyebrow pencil.

Then, by my 50s it was gone and I missed having my "beauty mark". I stopped darkening it because I now was getting "laugh lines", from the sides of my nose to my mouth.

Darkening it would not be flattering. Smiley Sad

I don't believe I've had any change either lighter or darker.

Thank you ladies. So it's sounds like it probably just disappeared on its own and had nothing to do with the skin care I've been applying to my hands.  I'll have a doctor look at it the next time I have an appointment.

Yes some can fade.  I have watched a raised mole with a lone black hair on my wrist disappear after over 60 years.  Guess it got mad about being tweezed.  The hair moved up to my chin to join his brethren, but that is another story.
