Disappointed in the price of returns

QVC and HSN is a billion dollar companies I don't understand why we have to pay a return fee. I paid a shipping fee and I am ok with that as they do offer free shipping from time to time.  But most big company's returns are free!!  Does anyone else feel this way?

I haven't bought anything from QVC in at least 4 years and I just made a beauty purchase and by the time I have paid shipping $3.50 and $6.95 for return fee.  I wasted  $10.

I find this really discouraging.

@beautydiva  - It doesn't bother me because I rarely return.  I believe Sephora has free returns.

Re: Disappointed in the price of returns

The only place I shop with free returns is Amazon.  Every other place changes the same or more for returns, including Anthropologie, Madewell, JCrew, etc.  If you're only talking about beauty items, I can't comment because I buy plenty from Sephora and Ulta but haven't returned anything I can think of.

@beautydiva In all these years I've never done a return. The couple of clothing items I didn't like got donated to a local charity (NOT Goodwill).

And if you think everyone has free returns, check out Amazon's new policy and a couple of others. Guess you need to shop elsewhere.

Many places offer free SH.  You just have to look.  Nordstrom offers free SH, but every item is increased $10 that I have looked into!  They'll get it one way or another.

Returning merchandise is not a profit making part of any business. Everyone loses in the process.

Re: Disappointed in the price of returns

I really think long and hard before I purchase something. The shipping both ways is a big waste of money.

That's why I love shopping at Amazon, free shipping and free returns because I do return things.

Company's have to expect returns because we aren't seeing the items in person or able to try them on. In B&M stores I rarely buy things once I try them on....I mean I take 20 things in a dressing room and I'm lucky if I like one of them. Which makes it difficult and expensive to buy things online.

Re: Disappointed in the price of returns

@beautydiva Even though you're paying a shipping and handling fee on the front end, that's a discounted amount.  For QVC to absorb the difference and still do free returns would really cut their profits. I've taken advantage of other places that offer free returns, Amazon mostly, and I can't imagine the cost to them.

When I order from QVC, I accept the risk that it may cost me to return something.  IMO its still cheaper than what I'd be spending in gasoline and time, if I had to drive somewhere to do an in person return in a brick and mortar store,

Re: Disappointed in the price of returns

From what I am seeing, the cost for returns is going to continue to rise from every supplier. When I was in retail, I did returns. They are tedious, time consuming, and a royal pain. They affect the retailer's open-to-buy dollars and affect the amount of new merchandise that can be ordered. Sales are lost while the item is out of the store. This was B&M, so I cannot even imagine the headache of returns in a multiple warehouse situation.

Some have abused the return process and caused everyone to pay the price. We were forced to tell a few they could no longer return and all sales were final. I suspect that policy may begin to happen to abusers with online ordering. At any rate, customers will most likely see increased shipping costs in both directions, or the price of goods will see an increase. Companies have to remain profitable to stay in business.

FYI...............Beauty items R NOT $10.00 more!!! You need to look more. Not True!

Besides, Nordstrom matches other retailer pricing if they are lower. And of course all s&H is free.
