I know you said you have tried Physician's Formula, but have you tried the one in the compact that has many different colors in it?  It is a powder solid and I just swish it on with a big fluffy brush and the different colors seem to melt together and do a great job on me.  I enjoy this as I hate the mess of loose power.  And I really feel mineral powder is gentle on the skin.
