that YouTube won't let Beauty influencers use the word dupe anymore?  I am watching March favorites by Nikki Larose and she mentioned that YouTube will not let them use the word dupe any longer. Personally, I think it's a good thing. Unless an item is 100% like another item, it's not a duplicate.

@monicakm   I like Nikki. I think she gives honest opinions/reviews of products. I never liked "dupe type" videos anyway. They were neever the same. If 100% equal is OK, but rarely is so YT made the correct decision.

I think this was driven by high end makeup being so expensive and maybe having fewer sales. Giving "dupes" made people think they could purchase the same product for less.

An item does not need to be exactly the same for me to use it. If a $7.00 lipstick shade is close to a $35.00 product, close is good enough for me. I am not buying the $35.00 lipstick anyway.

I do agree that it is not technically a duplicate, 100% like, but that is not important to me.

I totally ignore dupes from any source.  Especially fragrances.

@monicakm  That's so interesting that the beauty vloggers can't say "due" now- I wonder fi they've found another term to work around that censorship? Maybe they can call it a "sibling" Smiley Very Happy.  Speaking of beauty vloggers- is anyone else like me where I'll watch a super long "glam bridal makeup" or "sexy night out super smokey eye" look video with zero intentions of doing the look? Smiley Very Happy Beauty vloggers are so much fun- I love the unboxing videos and the face of new products videos.

I didn't know that! I think YT is forgetting the "spirit" of dupes in favor of being overly technical. Dupes are of interest to me for a number of reasons: price, inability to find a particular product, and when looking for a suitable replacement for discontinued products. In none of those cases would I expect an exact duplicate.

However, now that I know this, I'll be more aware of how I search for...dupes lol. I may have to use different wording to get the results I want.

@monicakm  - well this is cetainly interesting. I kind of liked the "dupe" videos, even if the item wasn't truly a dupe, it was nice to see less expensive options.  By the way, hope all went well with your DH on Monday.

Just as an fyi, Tate's Timeless primer is the exact duplicate, ingredient to ingredient as Mally's ORIGINAL poreless prep primer, the really popular good one.  Just letting anyone who used to use Mally's primer but stopped due to the change.

I guess I really am negative.  I also totally ignore beauty vloggers.  To me it seems there is way too much temptation to promote whatever they get free.  If I can't glean enough knowledge from QVC, Sephora, etc. I've really lost it.
