My 66 year old post menopausal hair has become uncontrollable. I am also going gray, actually white in front. My longer red hair (that used to be wavy) is now frizzy and wild. I use WEN usually, and have had good results. I did start using Deva Cur,l No Poo, the conditoner, and the the light gel. My hair now falls into box pleats. LOL! More like Bottacelli curls. It looks good for a day or two at most. Oils and rewetting the hair at this point do not work. The hair frizzes.
BTW, I have tried everything out there, I get my products wholesale so I go for everything I think will work. Most don't work.
My hair has become a "hair day" thing. OMG, I now have to leave hair wet, squeeze water out gently with micro cloth, and then follow the Deva Curl method. It is Work! Otherwise, I look like Monty Rock. LOL! Has anyone found the Deva Curl products to be drying? IDK if the drying is the product or my health issues.
Opinions on Deva Curl are appreciated
Thank you

How do you dry your hair, when I wore my hair curly, I would scrunch the water out, blot with a mirco fiber towel add my gel and not touch my hair until it was totally dry. I ended up with beautiful frizz free curls

Have you tried using the oils before putting in the gel? I recently started putting the oil in my hair after my leave-in (fig for maximum moisture) and before adding the devacurl gel. My curls are shiny and frizz free.

My hair texture changed 2 years ago. I had very thick, fine hair with a curl if cohersed to do so. The waves and curls had a smoothness to them, if I let it dry naturally, blow dried it, hot curled it. The shampoo, treatments with gels and such, never made a difference.
Now my hair is super fine, and very curly to the scalp, especially the front hair, (from mid crown to face). I cannot maintain the curls past the secon day. No way I can wash all the time.
This is what I have been doing. I shampoo with Deva Curl No Poo for color hair, sometimes I use the moisturizer (DEVA) or Kpak, then I use the Deva conditioner, I wrap with towel (because I do this in Kitchen sink), go upstairs remove towel. I take a micro towel, bend my head forward and lightly squeeze water out with micro towel. I then use Deva Curl light gell still with head forward, scrunching upward. I throw hair back, arrange part and without disturbing curls. I may add a little more gel at this point. I use deva clips for a little height and let dry naturally. At this point it looks good. When dry, I scrunch here and there. The next day I lightly use a pick to arrange hair. I am afraid to run pick through hair when dried as then the curls frizz.
Because I let my hair dry naturally and don't run a comb or pick through it when it is wet, it can get tangled.
Tomorrow is wash day. After I hand towel it, should I put a little oil? Then gel? I have never used oil per say. I do have Deva Curl mirror curls, and I have used a hair polish oil.

Although I have tried a few of the deva styling products, I've never used the deva poo/no poo and conditioner, therefore I can't comment on whether or not they are drying. My hair tends to be dry because I color my hair to cover the gray and the deva gel I use is the deva care for color-treated hair.
I highly recommend adding oil before putting in your gel to seal in the moisture from your conditioner. The mirror curls is on my list of products to try in the future.

Okay, tomorrow on :hair day" I am trying the oil first.. All I have on hand is mirror curls, will that work? Then the light gel!
I think WEN works as well as No Poo. WEN may not draw the curl up as much, but it seems to leave the texture a tad smoother. Never in my life did I think I would have to put this much thought and work into doing my hair. . Geesh!

After my double cleanse, for my leave-in I mix 2 pumps of Fig CC (from the 32oz bottle) with a full dropper of WEN oil, work it into my hair, scrunch in some One Condition, then quickly dip my head under the shower so my hair is soaking wet again. I scrunch in a palmful of One Condition (I use Fig CC sometimes mixed with oil in more normal humidity times), squeeze out excess water, then blot my hair with an old cotton t-shirt (towels can cause frizz because the loops catch your hair). I have a Deva cut, which helps my curls fall into the right shape. After my hair is blotted I scrunch in the Deva gel, put in my clips for volume at the part, then don't touch until fully dry. When it's dry I don't comb or pick or even finger comb or I will frizz...I invert my head and lightly scrub my fingers at the scalp to break up the curls just enough. I only comb when it's wet/to work the CC through and help rinse it out. Sometimes I will comb after I put in my leave-in, but I don't always like how the straighter parts of my hair look after that. When dry, I have tangles...there's not much I can do about that. I hope this helps.
I want to get a Deva cut. I am in NoCal and no DC salons here. But there is one in Culver City, near one of my daughters. I may try that when I am up there. Thanks for the heads up on the tee shirt! I have been using an expensive Deva micro fiber towel. I am thinking those pack of 12 micro fiber towels they sell at Costco for cars would work too, and cheaper. I have just the tee shirt to use tomorrow.
I think I am going to order the WEN oil. I have heard great things about it. There is no silicon in it , right?
