Re: Darker or Lighter Eyebrows

Of course, brow color is a personal choice, but the idea is that the product/color you choose should mimick a shadow cast by your brow hair. That’s why taupe is usually referred to as universal.

The hair on my head is almost black and so are my brows and lashes. My brows are fairly full but are sparse on the tails and part of the arch. I like to use a taupe brow pencil to give the look of a complete brow by giving them a shadow effect. For me, using a black or dark brown brown pencil makes my brows too defined and makes them contrast harshly against the rest of my face.

@SilleeMee  Exactly what I said in my post...had not read all of these first.

My brows are dark brown.  Every once and a while, a white hair sneaks in and I pluck it.  If I were to color them, I would go similar to the hair color.

@GCR18Please don’t tweeze the white hairs. Brows get thin enough w/ age. If many grey ones appear, your hairdresser can color them.

Re: Darker or Lighter Eyebrows

I'm not up on the latest of anything actually, but I do know that when these people selling makeup make the model's eyebrows so black and drawn on it does not look natural.

Because I don't have a thyroid my hair is thin (I wear a wig) and my once wonderful eyebrows are also thin.  Due to my age (71) they have white hairs in them.

I have people comment that I don't look 71.  One thing I tell people is because I wear makeup (i.e. makes my skin all one color, no dark spots due to age).

But also I wear something on my brows that slightly darkens my eyebrows.  I buy the lightest shade and even that is plenty dark.  They just look natural.  I think if you want to look young(er) you need regular width (not skinny) eyebrows and they need to be just brown not black like I sometimes see the hosts wearing and the models get their faces painted on with it.

Sometimes these people look like they have caterpillars over their eyes.  It totally looks fake and I think it doesn't look good at all.

Re: Darker or Lighter Eyebrows

I am in my mid 50s with dark blonde highlighted hair. I always used a light brown or taupe brow shade, but recently I thought the color was too dark. As my blonde hair goes grey, my highlights have gone lighter to mask the grey strands a bit. As a result my hair actually is a lighter shade than it was when I was younger. I have switched to a blonde brow pencil and like it better because it blends in better with my hair color now.

I have all white hair but still have dark eyebrows. I don't like how it looks but also don't know what to do about it. My eyebrowsare rather sparse so at this point I'm just wearing glasses that keep them from showing.

@Annabellethecat66. Lol. The models’ makeup, just not brows is way overdone. You’re correct that a fuller brow is more youthful, but not all faces can carry it off. Brow shape and fullness has to look well w/ the symmetry of your face.

If someone’s brows are a “problem”, consult a brow specialist and after the correct shape is established, you can tweeze the stray hairs.

@SilleeMee Sorry. That’s a “no no” unless you want to end up w/ thinner brows as more grey ones appear & you keep tweezing them out...eventually will not grow back. Have your brows tinted every 6wks. or so. *****Don’t try to do it yourself w/ boxed haircolor. It comes out darker than color indicated and more importantly can get it in your eyes. If a pro is doing it, you can lie back, close both eyes and relax.

Re: Darker or Lighter Eyebrows

I've been told to not keep eyebrows too close together as it makes one appear angry.

Also, make the beginning of your eyebrow light and then heavier as you go along.

Grey, blond, light brown go universal taupe. Go lighter than darker.

Aging is going too dark.
