I've had a bottle for a few years, that I've finally almost finished, and it doesn't smell like anything. In fact if I use my Maricuja Oil, that one smells like oil, but JM Argan Oil doesn't. Maybe since yours was in storage, did it get really hot or anything? That could change it and make it go bad quicker.

Oil stability can be effected by a number of different things such as light, temperature, air and moisture exposures and because they are fats, they do have shelf lives that will vary depending on each oil and type of oil.
For optimum safe keeping, they should be stored in a dark pump style container (I prefer glass) that has a cap and in a cool dark place. Some refrigerate well and those that don't need to be stored away from exposures.

That's why I do not buy "Super Size." However, I had one of Josie's color sticks get disgusting in about a year (it has argan oil in it). It smelled horrible & I tossed it in the garbage.

I have a lifetime supply of them I hope they last years and years .I don't know how I accumulated so many ,but I think they came from buying her sets on a/d.
I'm a JM lover but unless the set has only the product I will regulary use and love I am going to stick to buying only singles from now on.

I believe that if you NEVER open all the extra oils you have, they will stay fresh. Once you expose to the air, you have about a year or so of freshness.

Unfortunately, even unopened oils can go bad if they are exposed to heat or light. Most unopened oils have a two to three year shelf life, but again, it depends on the container and how they have been stored. The hard part is that even if YOU store it in a dark, cool place, you have no idea of the conditions during shipping or how long it sat on a shelf in a store/warehouse before you purchase.

Boy that's for sure, good point Cassiem. The same can be said for other skincare as well, especially for those that are mass produced.
When I order oils (from the bulk/raw ingredient co.'s) I inquire first to ask about the labeled date on the orig. container because those oil are stored in bulk then transferred into smaller containers upon order.

That's a good idea, Magemay. I love when companies put a production date on the product or packaging, so at least I know when it was bottled. But even that doesn't guarantee that it was stored properly after the manufacturing/bottling process. After a terrible experience with a skin infection on my face, I tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to skin care. If anything looks or smells the slightest bit off or I have any question/doubts about it, into the trash it goes.

I've stopped all super sizes as well (except the WEN gallon and the Philosophy 32 oz gels and lotions).
I find that the consistency at the end of these larger bottles is not the same. I have a huge problem with BE's Primer. I started buying the little bottles again, but I think I need to shake them every time I use them. They seem to be thin when I first open it and thick and don't dry toward the end of the bottle.
Annoying.
