I don't know if it's "Murphy''s Law" or what. But on special occasions like holiday parties, etc. we like to do our hair, makeup and clothing and get excited about looking out best.
Well for some reason it never turns out right many times for me. I start the day looking rested. Skin is clear, but sometimes a pimple or a red spot could show up. No problem, a little thick coverage will clear that up, right? Plus you go to beauty salon the day before for a blowout and will style it that evening or next day. All is well.
This just happened to me last Easter Sunday. We were a group of about 12 and were to arrive by 1 pm. I started out relaxed before makeup and hair. Well nothing turned out right. I put on eyelashes. I do it all the time with no problem. Well by accident eyelash glue got into my eyeball which immediately turned red. It was very hard to get rid of the drying glue under my eye as I wanted a "smokey eye" look. The remaining glue just made me look so dark on one eye as I couldn't rub it off as I was getting redder by the minute.
Then I put my hair up in a chignon hairpiece. My hair was softer than usuall and could not acheive the sleek polished look I usually achieve. I had bobby pins all over the place.
I was frustrated, tried visine on that red eye with no success and then my face turned red from getting flustered I guess.
I finally gave up and chalked it up to another "special event gone bad". Oh, ps it started raining when we left the house too! lol.
Does this happen to anyone else but me? Thanks.
PS. Even my clothes didn't look right either for some reason. High anxiety. And they sat us at the large table with the most light shining on me. OMG..... a mess.

Well, "sort of"........but in a different way.
I am not a native of Phoenix...I'm a "transplant". So, I end up being OVERDRESSED for just about EVERY occasion (!!)

Yes, it has happened to me as well. It reminds me of an old Mary Tyler Moore episode where she finally wins an award and she looks bad due to a cold. She accepts the award by saying "I usually look better than this..."
When i was working, part of my job was giving speeches/presentations in front of large groups, as well as presentations to "very important people". Invariably I would break out with one or two ENORMOUS cyctic acne pimples. No hiding those. Sigh. One of the benefits of early menopause was not getting cystic acne.
I never thought I was a nervous speaker...but my body did.

@Pink123 Sounds to me that you're a perfectionist and have high expectations. I suggest go with the flow and don't have any expectations.

Oh bless your heart. At least you didn't see any old boyfriends...or did you? I'm sure that's happened to ALL of us at some time. I learned a long time ago that altho we're all different, we're all the same. I doubt anyone noticed but on Easter Sunday I chose a pair of (new) lashes, a style I'd never worn before. They were synthetic?? Not real hair and were too perfectly formed and they were shiny Who wears shiny eyelashes? LOL Like my mom always says, people are too concerned with themselves to notice anyone else. I'm the exception to the rule tho as I've always been a people watcher.

That's kind of funny. I have a friend who lives in AZ, but married a man who had been raised on the east coast and was a bit stuffy/old school. They came out to visit my husband and I in Seattle and gave my husband grief for not putting on a tie and jacket for dinner. Mind you...they were our guests, at our house and we were taking them out to a place we picked. There is almost...almost...no place where people don't wear casual clothes for dinner here in Seattle.
My dh and I still laugh about that episode.

My stepson's wedding last July. I worried about what to wear and bought a dress. What a mistake! I never wear dresses and was uncomfortable and felt awful. After the ceremony, I went to our room, (we were staying in the same hotel as the wedding) and changed to cream wide legged pants and a pale pink top. Felt so much better.

GLUE in your eye sounds just awful!!! I wear contacts so I can't even imagine that happening. Never have I tried false eyelashes so your post is a heads up if I ever do. I would like to but now I am rethinking that
Getting ready for a "special" event never goes exactly right for me. I can even plan it out in advance which means I have picked out what I am wearing and it FITS!
I do my own hair and makeup so that either goes ok or it's a disaster but going to a salon the morning of I have never done before. They never do my hair the way I like it either so why bother.

Nope...everyone has their priorities. I'm sure you look great...it is just never been a main concern for me. I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy your family and friends during your life adventures. Wishing you all the best.😉

The one time I remember the most-
We were on our way to a wedding and going down the steps of our house I noticed:
a run in my stocking
chipped red nail polish
holding my 2 year old's Disney lunch box in one hand
I had tried so hard but it was too late to change any of it.
You can only laugh.
