DO YOU COLLECT LAUDER COMPACTS?

[ Edited ]

Several years ago I received a beautiful Estee Lauder compact that I've never used.

Out of curiousity, I searched for them on Ebay and found a huge amount for sale ... some at very high prices!  Apparently, women collect them.  Some compacts had Swarovski crystals and Judith Leiber designs.

Is anyone here familiar with these collections?   Mine is covered in rhinestones and is really quite beautiful.  I'm trying to decide what to ask for it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA !

Ebay is the best source for current market sales prices for items particularly collectibles like your compact.

Look at completed / sold sales and that will give you a great idea as to what you may want to ask.  Current unsold auctions & store item prices don't necessarily give you an idea of what someone is willing to pay for an item, it shows what the seller is asking which may not be realistic.  The current asking prices can however give you an idea if you'll be competitive or not with your pricing.

About 10 years ago, I started a collection of Estee Lauder compacts from the Zodiac series.  A couple of them I used as birthday gifts.  They really are very beautiful and unique, some gold  with rhinestones as you say.

The Zodiac series was a different series for some years, so there were different styles of compacts for each Zodiac sign, depending on the year of issue.

So, I would suggest you determine what series and what year your compact was issued.  Do you still have the original box? And is the condition more or less new?

I think $50 is a good starting place and go up from there depending on the things I've mentioned.  Let's face it, there probably is not a huge demand for these.

Re: DO YOU COLLECT COMPACTS?

There was an outlet near me that carried the Este Lauder compacts years ago. I bought many for myself and for friends.
I have cat & dog shapes, heart, Libra, and a color change heat one. Many others, LOVE them!
Since the pandemic I've only used a clear cross body small purse that I can wipe and never need a compact or lipstick with a mask.
They're are so many things I don't wear or use now, including pueses, shoes, jewelry, coats. It's a different life!

I can barely look at what is available on ebay without wanting to add to my collection which is serving me no real purpose at all, except taking up a drawer in my nightstand!  The ones you have sound intriguing.

I had already gone through all of the 1800+ auctions on Ebay and none look like mine. Also checked Amazon and Etsy.  I have no box or any identifying information.

So ... after scouring the EL website, I called customer service.  They were useless.    Told me they "might" be able to look it up if I have the name of the item, but I don't have anything to go on.  The name Estee Lauder is on both the compact and the powder puff, but that's it.

I can't find anything similar.

Still searching ....

No idea what year or what series.  Don't have the box, but it is unused.   When I called EL customer service today, the rep told me that they had lists if the compacts made, but no pictures!

Woulldn't you think there would be a list of everything made - regular or limited edition - and photos?   They are all pretty gorgeous, and a lot has gone into making and promoting these "collectibles".

Re: DO YOU COLLECT COMPACTS?

Why not use it?  If you don’t like the powder in it, remove it and replace it with one you do.
