Re: DESPERATE FOR HELP WITH MY NAILS!

I would just keep them short, filed, and, if you wish, polished. I've never been able to grow my nails and don't have great expectations for them. I remember when I was a teenager hearing other girls talk about how they were drinking gelatin in hopes of making their nails grow. I doubt that it did anything.

OP - i would look up the symptoms of hypothyroid and see if you have any of them because this is a reason why many ladies have bad nails. If you do have some other of the symptoms - always being cold - losing hair - esp. eyebrows - weight gain - tired all the time are some of them that are common - ask your doctor to test your thyroid.

Re: DESPERATE FOR HELP WITH MY NAILS!

I recently had my yearly checkup and blood work. The test results show that I am very very low in Vitamin D. The level should be 30 and my level is 9!!?? Doc put me on this high dose 50,000 unit capsule once a week. I am also sitting in the sun at noon on the front porch steps for about 15minutes each sunny day. Low vitamin D is quite common due to sunscreen and avoiding too much sun to avoid skin cancer. I will be curious to see if this vitamin D will make a difference in my hair and nails. I have been having some problems with thinning hair and nails but thought it was just a hormone/age thing, it might be this vitamin D issue.

Nailtiques Plus 2, Hard as Hoof, good cuticle care has helped my nails.

I also had the thyroid levels checked which showed normal levels. Not all doctors check the vitamin D level in routine blood work so I am suggesting you talk with your doctor, vitamin D does impact hair and nails. Good Luck!
