I haven't used a curling iron in about a million years! It used to be a staple of mine --- used one almost every day!
Since I got my hair cut a couple of months ago, I am kind of in flux as to how to style it exactly. So, decided the other day to search through my closet for my old curling iron.
Oh, goodness. It looked like it had been through the war! The barrel was all gunked up --- obviously styling products --- and the finish --- was all chipped. So, that went in the trash!
I purchased a new one at Marshall's which was on the clearance table. Didn't pay a lot because I want to see if I will really be able to still use one and look decent!
Do you all still use curling irons?
Also --- what product do you use on your hair right before to keep from having damage?
If you use styling products, how do you keep them from sticking to or ruining the finish of the iron?
Thanks so much!

Like you I stopped using a curling iron a million years ago. My hair is short and I just blow dry it. My hair really doesn’t hold much of a curl anyway so that’s why I gave it up. It was just a waste of time. I’ve always liked straight hair since I was a kid.

Absolutely - every day - 365 Hairdresser does too - she has approx 4 of every barrel size. For me: Hot Tools - 14k gold barrel so the only 'mess' I have is - over time some of my high-lite coloring does discolor the barrel. Clean after every use to keep it under control. Temperature adjustment is also important so it doesn't burn the hair and cook hairspray on the iron.

Yes, just on a few small stubborn spots, when I don't have enough of a mess to need to use my Perfector. But I don't use it to curl, I use it to wrap the hair around it then pull it smooth. Mine actually looks like a miniature Perfector, it has teeth rather than the kind where you clamp a piece down on your rolled hair.

Hi @AngelPuppy1 . I stopped using a curling iron years ago because I wasn't happy with the "too styled" look. I use a flat iron w/ rounded sides so in my short hair (1 1/2"), I can pull the section up straight & end w/ a twist of the wrist for a little bend at the ends. I use any drugstore product that says "heat protectant" or for "heat styling".

I use my Calista Perfecter round brush instead. I think it gives me a better look than a regular curling iron. Irons make my hair flat so I don't use them.

I love my Perfecter as well. It is so good for smoothing and adding volume I wouldn't be without it.

I use a curling iron, but a BIG one! It is more for smoothing and direction.

I use one to smooth out my bob, I'm not great with a flat iron.

I have a conair that's a bunch of years old. I use it on workdays. My hair is short and the top has no lift. Curling iron fixes that problem. I blow dry with a round brush, but the iron locks it in. I don't have an issue with product buildup on the iron. I use a couple products on wet hair.
