Copper/skin products

This may be a dumb question but I'm hoping that someone may know more about this.

I thought that copper was bad for you - like can cause damage to organs etc... So, is it safe to put copper on your face, skin...? I have the Isomers copper and now I'm unsure if I should be using it.

I look at it this way, when copper is considered an essential nutrient for the inside of you, how can it be bad for the outside of you?
