Re: ComPact 2020 – Meaningful May

Irony is alive and well. I was just looking at some new baskets for my (why-are-there-so-many) craft projects, and musing about the fact that storage "solutions" are surely among the leading causes of clutter.

Stuff accumulates. One organizes it into a storage container. More stuff accumulates to fill that container. Out of sight, out of mind, so one forgets about the stuff in the original container, and more starts to collect. Rinse and repeat.

It's like when they build a new freeway lane to accommodate increasing traffic, and bam! suddenly there's a whole new batch of traffic to fill it up.

I can't tell you how many baskets I'd collected over the decades.  And I had some nice ones, too.  Again, had some from the 70s.

I had all sorts of tins, plastic organizers, metal organizers, cardboard organizers...

Was I organized?

I think as soon as you think you need to buy something to put on a surface to hold something -- even if it's to hold pens -- you should stop yourself.

If you have to organize objects, you have too many objects.

P.S. I lost all the baskets and organizers after the fire.  And now I'm more organized.  Why?  Because I have less stuff to organize.

Here's one for you.  We bought a new refrigerator.  It was installed.  As I've posted previously, somehow the doors were dented after installation.  The contractor is responsible.

The manufacturer can replace the dented doors.

Now that fridge is practically half-price at Home Depot and costs less than the replacement doors.

Do we cancel the replacements and buy a new fridge, then put the dented one in the garage to hold... well, Amstel Light?

Don't really want a second fridge when a freezer would make more sense.

This is the kind of cr@p that makes a person crazy.  And it's the kind that makes another's opinion valuable.

@just bee

My first thought is always, "What's cheapest?"  If your contractor is responsible though, this may be a moot point.  Alternatively, if the doors still function properly and you can live with the dents, can you get a decent cash settlement from the contractor?  Just live with the frig as is and pocket some extra money until you need a new refrigerator.

My second thought is always, "What's easiest?"  Because I'm lazy.

We had a somewhat similar situation when we bought the frig I have now.  When it arrived, it looked fine.  But after a couple of days, frost was continuing to build up in the freezer.  The freezer door wouldn't seal.  Lowe's wanted to swap out a new door for one they had on a similar frig that was in stock.  The OG went round and round insisting that we had paid for a new refrigerator and that's what he wanted: a new refrigerator.  It took a few weeks to get it ordered and delivered, but we did end up with a whole new refrigerator.

I think my main question would be, what if the new doors don't function properly?  Who is responsible, the contractor or the manufacturer? And would it affect your warranty at all?

And if you get a new refrigerator, there's no guarantee it won't have something wrong with it too.  Then you're still hassling with somebody about a refrigerator for who knows how long.

See, I told you I hate making decisions.  🤯

You're right.  Sometimes it's nice to have someone else around.  Have BH decide.😉

@geezerette

I'm tempted to leave the doors dented because that will take the focus off the cr@ppy cabinetry above the stove.

But then I think: We didn't pay for a dented refrigerator.

Tomorrow will be the one year anniversary of our fire.  Cinco de Mayo.  And we still aren't finished with all this.  Today the contractor will be at the house to try to remove the big stain on the patio -- AGAIN.

I just want to be done and start living in our house again.  Flaws and all.

Re: ComPact 2020 – Meaningful May

You know what's really weird?

I was depressed about leaving our little rental and moving back into this house.  Moving was a misery.  I knew I would miss the little house, the little yard and the shorter commute to work.  I'd miss the great little neighborhood, the walking trails, the critters, the big park.

It's been a month since we've been out of the rental and I don't miss it as much as I thought I would.  Probably because we've been so busy with the transition from the rental to this house.

Or maybe because this is really our home.  It felt a little foreign at first, but now it's starting to feel normal again.

Well, one man's (woman's) trash is another man's treasure they say.

Last night S/O took the red plastic tote that I referred to up thread out of the trash can. When he put the trash out, he set the tote on top of the lid to the can. Well, don't you know, before the night was over, someone took it.

Goodbye old tote bag, go forth and make someone happy.

That worked out pretty well!

I don't think you'll miss them.

Re: ComPact 2020 – Meaningful May

I just read an article on our local news website.

Quarantine gardening offers therapeutic benefits...

Working with your hands in the dirt is very therapeutic and getting some sunshine outside and not being cooped up in the house.

All the vibrant colors and fragrances from the plants can help release stress.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gardening can get your body moving, especially outdoor gardening. The CDC says moderate to vigorous physical activity can help reduce short term anxiety for adults.

If you keep it up, you may even start sleeping better.

I spent most of yesterday in the yard, digging up foxtails.  I now have a sunburn.  I'll be heading out there again today...

It's therapeutic.

mean·ing·ful

having meaning

having a serious, important or useful quality or purpose

communicating something that is not directly expressed

Hey!  You've already done something for Meaningful May.  You've decided that a few items serve no purpose for you, but may serve a purpose for someone else.

The rest of us need to figure out what Meaningful May means... for us.

I'm thinking...

Re: ComPact 2020 – Meaningful May

Target has marked down Raw Sugar body wash this week.  I don't know if it's being phased out because the company has introduced many new, more expensive items.

I had to ask myself:

Do I want to stock up on my body wash?

Tempting, but I'll pass.  I have a bottle in the shower and a bottle in the closet.  BH has his own bottle in the shower.

If for some reason I run out before the next sale or if the items are discontinued, I will cope and find a replacement.

I'm not married to this stuff.
