Hi Everyone!
@just bee I wanted to wish you the best moving into your rental. It must be so overwhelming, just wanted you to know I am thinking about you and sending you positive vibes as you set up your nest. XO

@rnmom wrote:@just bee -good luck getting moved and settled into a new rental. Even though it isn't permanent I would think that it would be a lot nicer than living in a hotel room. One step closer to back to normal.
It will be interesting to see what kind of items the restoration crews drop off next week! Maybe you shouldn't buy a lot until you see what they bring back
The last thing you want is more unwanted duplicates.
I kept waking up last night because I've started to remember what they took to restore. Art objects (dust collectors) that won't be coming out of the boxes. Books. Clothes. Records, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, a guitar, a couple framed prints, a futon frame, dining room set, two tables, a desk...
I had imagined these items coming back to our house where we have the square footage and storage to hold it all.
When I was in the rental yesterday, dropping off items we bought at Costco and Walmart, I noticed there was very little storage space. Especially in the bathrooms. And I noticed we'll need to buy two shower curtains.
My chicken collection stayed on top of our kitchen cabinets. In the rental, the cabinets touch the (much lower) ceilings.
We may need to rent a U-Haul and move our restorables into a storage unit.
As cute as the rental is -- and there is much to like about it -- I think I'm starting to appreciate our house, Jack.
(Yes, I named our house after Jack Brickhouse -- the sportscaster who did play-by-play coverage for the Cubs on WGN. Don't mock me.)

I'll take all the positive vibes I can get! Thanks!
The good news is it's an area close to everything the dog loves and there are plenty of walking opportunities. A small, but very nice, backyard. Even a patch of grass.
A little bit of normal.

Correction!
I was at the rental today and there IS space above the cabinets. Not sure if there's enough for the really BIG chicken, but at least I can have some fowl up there. ![]()

Today's the BIG day! We'll move out of the hotel and into the rental. Not only will the two restoration companies be delivering items, but we'll also be getting a couch and mattress set. And it looks like my tea order showed up in ABQ at two this morning.
I was packing up as much as possible yesterday to move to the rental so of course I packed my eyeliner and mascara and brought those to the house yesterday.
I feel undressed without eyeliner and mascara. Can't leave the hotel.

So I bought some new toiletries for the move. Picked up a case of Huggies Natural Care wipes at Costco, three bottles of Mrs. Meyer's hand soap (one for kitchen, two for bathrooms) and, because BH has been complaining of dry skin on his face, I finally used that Target gift card to buy a bottle of Cerave hydrating facial cleanser and a jar of moisturizing cream. That he'll never use.
ETA:
Guess what shampoo and conditioner I ended up buying yesterday? Suave almond and shea butter.

Thanks for the support! It's been helpful posting here and processing the Not So Great Fire of 2019.
Found out from our new landlord that there's a toad living in the yard. Must tread lightly...

Just bee, I am so glad your out of the hotel. Does your back yard have a fence?
It does! Looks like it has some privacy and there's a lot of green out there.
Everything was delivered today and the house is full of boxes. Small kitchen -- probably a good thing we didn't have everything restored.
This will take some getting used to. Have to find a way to fit everything into the space.
I can't believe how much clothing came back. There are only three closets in this house. And I have casual clothes in the storage unit.
