Re: ComPact 2019 – Accountable April

I love TJ Maxx and Ross, don't take me with you. You will never leave.☺
Love the squirrel story. When living in KY my pups would chase them up a tree and wait along time below. Squirrels weren't that stupid. LOL

Re: ComPact 2019 – Accountable April

@just bee - I graduated from nursing school in 1993 and we still had to wear full white uniforms, skirts, hose, nursing shoes, and yes, caps. It wasn't fun. We were finally able to ditch the caps our last semester, but still had to wear the uniforms. Once I graduated we were able to switch to regular scrubs thank goodness.

I'm still jealous of your weather. We're having cold temps again this weekend, high in the 40's yesterday, maybe mid 50's in the afternoon today, in the 30's overnight and in the morning. Yuck.

We don't have a lot of squirrels here and it took a long time to spot one in our neighborhood.  One year we had a whole family show up.  I tagged them the Nutt Family and named each one.  King Nutt, Chucka Nutt...

Anyway, since then an occasional squirrel will appear, sit on the retaining wall and stare at the dog.  The dog will sit for hours and stare back

It's good to have a hobby.

Re: ComPact 2019 – Accountable April

We stopped in the dollar store yesterday to grab some batteries and I decided to browse, just for a bit. I ended up getting 2 small makeup items for myself, an LA colors facial highlighter and an LA colors eyeshadow pallette with 6 small pans of color. Kinda reminded me of the e.l.f. products I used to buy so I figured, why not, for $1 I'll give them a try. I didn't need either one at all, but I wanted a treat.

I also found some bar soaps that are different scents and I bought several of those to try, 8 all together I think. I can't remember all the scents but they were like vanilla cream, coconut and rose oil, coconut lime, rosemary and mint. I'm looking forward to trying them in place of regular harsh bar soap like Dial and Zest. Plus I think they were all cruelty free and I don't believe any of the bar soaps I usually use are. I just hope DH likes using them too.

Even the squirrel looks uncomfortable.  Normally, I like tradition but this is one I can let go.

Yes, I saw that the Midwest was getting hit and Chicago was buried by snow.  We're expecting 82 degrees today -- about ten degrees warmer than normal this time of year.  Then rain (I hope!) on Monday and Tuesday will bring the temps down to the 70s again.

I like that we have four distinct seasons.  I do like our spring because what I look forward to all year is just around the corner: The scent of Russian olive blossoms.

I mentioned this at work the other night and no one had a clue.  When I moved out here in '95 I asked everyone what that "smell" was.  What smell?

I must have looked crazy, sniffing everything in my path.  But I finally found it.

Russian olive

So tiny, yet so fragrant.

The blossoms appear in May and the city smells like a candy factory.

Yet the tree is considered a pest and they're being ripped out of the bosque.  That tree is one of six reasons I'm still living here.

We have Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar General here.  I try to avoid them because each store has hidden treasures that I just don't need to know about.  I used to find beautiful gift bags at our Dollar Tree.  So many things to tempt me... I came home once with a small metal bucket that has a bee painted on it.  I use it to hold items at the bathroom sink.

I hope you enjoy your new items.  We expect a full report! Woman LOL

Re: ComPact 2019 – Accountable April

Has anyone noticed the price of halibut?

I'm seeing it at $20 a pound -- and higher.  Yes, there are reasons for the increase but I remember my mother would make halibut for me when I was a kid because I was her "fish-eater."  (She'd even fry up smelt for me.  My siblings thought I was freakish.)  But halibut was affordable in the 60s.

We had T-bones for dinner last night.  On sale, we're talkin' $5 each.  I cooked mine on enameled cast iron -- four minutes on each side and it was perfect.

We want to eat more fish but cows are more affordable these days.

A member of the Nutt family is in the yard right now.  The dog is mesmerized.

He's frozen... just staring at the wall.

He knows the word "squirrel," so we started referring to the little visitors as "squistles" (like the whistling sound they make).  He learned that word, too.

He has quite the vocabulary.  Now we just say "s."  Soon we'll either have to pass notes or learn ASL.

My dogs no our lingo too. If we say walk they both run to the front door. Biscuits, treats, bath, jeep, bread, leash,
and in and out and so many more! They are smart. I think it is because we spend so much time with them.
Brownies baking, one is sitting at the stove? You can't make it up. 😌

Re: ComPact 2019 – Accountable April

rnmom, My sisters are both nurses and they have seen a lot as I'm sure you know. In the mid eighty"s my sister was in the ER one night when a man came into the hospital with a broken leg .He had been out ,dancing. When they cut his pants off, they found a sausage in his pants. 😁 True story!
