ComPact 2018 – Now November

The ComPact is a commitment to simplify, pare down, streamline. It began as a way to gain some control over our collections of beauty products. Why were we amassing so much, yet not using what we were buying? Why were we always searching for the next new product? Why couldn't we just find what worked for us and stick with it?

The ComPact, however, is not restricted to beauty items. If you have a collection you want to address, do it here. Choose an area you want to work on, and track your progress on the ComPact thread. Members will offer tips and encouragement.

Choose one of our many mantras (“One by one until they’re done!” “We are SPAHHHRRRTAN!!!” “Not until you really have to.” “Buy less, choose well, make it last.” “Resist the propaganda.” "If it's high, I don't buy!" “When in doubt, do without!” “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.”  "Only the store, online no more!" “Shoplighters of the World Unite!”) or create a new one and share it. Target items each month to toss, donate, or use, and post your “chopping block” -- or “hit list.” Post temptations, post victories.

They say it takes 30 days for something to become a habit: Let's see if taking the ComPact one month at a time works for you.

Re: ComPact 2018 – Now November

Hey, all you HEPcats and HEPdogs! We had discussed making the Healthy Eating thread a monthly jam session, so I just went ahead and did a little improvisation.

This is an invite to our crazy crib where you can come and break it down! I say we go 18 karat on this and really swing. If healthy eating’s not your bag, no problem. But if it is, I dig.

It’s cool, I’m booted, let’s jump!

"How about 'Now'  - I saw a saying on Pinterest:  Now is the time for less."

But @aprilskies also had a suggestion:

"Noooooooooooooooo."

Like, Just Say Noooooooooooovember.

You'll know which one works best for you! Woman LOL

@just bee@PaLady1, I think Palady had it right. NOW is the time for less.

@It is even time for less headaches, @geezerette.  Yesterday made my third order to get delivered to the wrong place. Third. I have not had that happen before. It has been 3 in a couple of months now.  I know things happen, but 3, what are these delivery people smoking.  But instead of being irritated at them, NOW is the time for less ordering and minimizing what is coming in. I need to do that anyway. I have a couple of more deliveries coming, one I am not concerned with, but the other one, I am anxious to receive.  But, should I be feeling anxious about deliveries. Sheesh.  Not major world problems.

HEP, forget it, it has just been horrendous and getting worse and we are going into the holiday season fast.  Since today starts a new month, I will try and be mindful how much I am consuming. No time like NOW.  I cant believe how hard it is.

And, you know, I am simply tired of organizing, how many times can I organize only to find myself in the same boat. I know upkeep is an ongoing process, but this is silly now, I spend way too much time organizing and reorganizing things I am not even really sure I need.  Plus, you know what dawned on me, with all of these deliveries, all it does is create more work, whether I need to make extra phone calls to resolve, finding places for all fo the things and the worse dealing with all of the boxes I now have to break down and toss.  Some of that packaging is downright wasteful. And then we wonder, how the earth is getting destroyed.  It is time to think about consumption.

I better run, I feel a rant coming on....

NOW is the time for less.  NOW is the time for a new mindset. NOW, how do we begin to break old habits.

Re: ComPact 2018 – Now November

Just an update on the dupe fragrance for AG.  It does smell nice and I do smell it on my skin hours later, however, I don’t get whiffs of it during the day, I actually forget I have anything on.  I know others never smelled AG on themselves, but I always got whiffs of it during the day which was just lovely. I have two bottles of this and I have no problem using, but not sure these are a repurchase. Time will tell.

@aprilskies

The wrapper is a little sticky on the inside, but the candy still tastes great! Woman LOL

Speaking of candy, I was saddened that See's Candies closed its store at our local mall.  Have I ever shopped there?  No.  But See's was a big part of my life when I was younger.  My parents always had a box of chocolates in the house and they would often send me a pound of strawberry creams when I was in college.

But guess what?  See's has returned to Albuquerque.  The store reopened in the same mall.  Something about that made me happy.  I went online to look at all the varieties my parents liked best.

And then I saw the price of a 5-pound box: $127.50.

Re: ComPact 2018 – Now November

I just deleted at least 150 Dermstore emails from my inbox.  Most contained interesting-looking articles that I'd planned to read one day.

I figured that was never going to happen, so...

@aprilskies

I think you summed up things pretty well.

I say the best way to break old habits is to replace the old one with a new "better" habit.

What new habit will you adopt this month?

@aprilskies

All I have to do is copy your post and put my name on it.  Everything you say pretty much is where I’m at too.

The sad/frustrating/stupid thing is that I’ve been here before—many times.  There’s nothing more to add, nothing new to analyze.  I’m a binge consumer, be it with purchasing things or eating junk.  And I overdo until I get to the point that I’m overwhelmed, or as in the case with eating, physically ill.  Both are tied together and I’m sure a psychiatrist would have a field day with  me.

It’s not that I lack self-control.  I have it.  I just can’t keep it.   I do great for a few weeks or months, and then, off I go again.

As @just bee mentioned in another post, I’m just not motivated.  Especially after the last few months.  Apparently the only time I do get motivated to keep on the straight and narrow is when I’ve overdone everything and feel physically and mentally awful.

I keep telling myself that one of these days I will have gone too far to recover.  It’s starting to worry me.  That should be an easy fix because I’m the one that’s doing all this to myself.  I think I need to print that line out in big bold letters and hang it up all over my house to remind myself constantly why this is happening to me.

Trouble is, as soon as I get my act together it doesn’t take long before I’m thinking, “Just this once...”.  And I’m back on the hamster wheel once more.
