@rnmom wrote:@just bee-So glad to hear that you are finally starting to feel better. Over 2 weeks, wow, that is a long time to feel sick.
Too bad about your better half though. After watching what you've gone thru, I'm sure he has to be dreading finally coming down with it.
When it comes to illness, he's usually in denial, but this time he's acknowledging symptoms.
It's hard to ignore the mucus thing.

Count me in on Team Caramel. We got a tin of Trader Joe's Stroopwafels and they are SOOOO good. The Dutch are geniuses.
So my fav YouTuber, Hannah Louise Poston taught me another handy idea: to categorize beauty into 3 areas. Short-term staples, long-term staples and long-term pleasures. It helps to think about products in these terms as far as price per usage. Spending more on a long-term staple means I get a better value in price per usage. Short-term staples means I'll be having to buy these products more often and I should be spending less on them. And long-term pleasures are sunk costs: products such as color cosmetics that take a long time to use up and I don't actually need, because I have already overspent in that area. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier but it really makes sense. I'm not as articulate as she is but it was totally eye-opening to me.
My father's mother was Dutch, but I'll pass on the stroopwafels. I'm becoming sensitive to salt and sugar. I ate a Kit Kat after Halloween and almost gagged. Way too sweet. I brought my leftover candy to work on Christmas and they gobbled it down. The only "chocolate" left in the house is a few M&M's in a jar.
It's still early and I haven't started my second mug of tea so I'll need more time to ponder the whole staple thing.
When I think of long-term staples I think of Paula's Choice facial cleanser. When I think of short-term staples I think of cheapo eyeliner pencils and mascara.
Long-term pleasures for me would be an expensive bottle of fragrance but I don't do that anymore.
Like I said, I need to think more about this.
@just bee I know I have a sugar addiction and in my head it know that the less sugar I consume, the less I crave it. I'm going to make it a new habit to cut the sugar to where I eat a Kit Kat and it's too sweet.
I'm still working on categorizing my short-term & long-term staples too.

I'm sitting here debating if I should reschedule my donation. If I'm even thinking about it, I should be doing it. I'm not 100% -- that I know.
It's the last day of the year so I actually have a lot to do.
A gentle reminder: Another quarter is ending. That means it's time to replace things like mascara and whatever else you toss and replace every three months.
Except I don't want to open a new mascara or replace my toothbrush when I'm still feeling the effects of the crud.

I so don't want to leave the house today but I have to. I've been puttering instead and have targeted five items to include in an "out with the old" end-of-year exercise.
I'm pitching five lipglosses. One salted caramel from B&BW (circa 2011) and four e.l.f. shades (Goddess, Pink Kiss and two Milk Shake, circa 2011).
I paid $3.20 for the caramel gloss and the e.l.f. lip shines were 99 cents each.
I think it's time to part ways.
What are you pitching today?

Happy news for a change! ![]()
Since I've been sick I've been scatterbrained and misplacing things. I lost a new pen and a favorite earring at work last week.
I was in such a funk over this that I told myself to look for the earring in my car just in case. I went out shopping for necessities today (in the snow!) and I forgot to check the car.
As I was getting out of the car, my seatbelt brushed my earlobe and I was reminded.
I looked down and there was the earring and, a couple inches away, the earring back. I was so happy! And then I turned to pick my new apples off the passenger seat and there was my pen!
My mood was instantly improved.
I feel like the gods tossed me a bone. This is the best I've felt in a long time.
Can I end 2018 on this positive note?

I think I’m ending the year with @just bee‘s creeping crud. I’ve felt something trying to worm it’s way in my head for the last few days. And I think it finally made it today. I don’t feel horrible right now, just have a drippy nose and other little fun things going on in my head.
Hopefully, it won’t take me two weeks to feel better because I want to continue with my attic cleaning. That’s been going quite well, although slower than I’d like since I just can’t physically handle it. All that lifting and bending and pulling. I did manage to find some friends to give all my goodies to (instead of donating) that I don’t toss out, that is. I would say about half of everything I’ve taken out so far has been thrown away. Another big eye-opening observation.
Anyway, Happy New Year to All! Wishing everyone a healthy and clutter-free 2019! 🎉🎊

Congrats on your clutter, condolences on your crud.
I don't know what this is but it requires a lot of rest. Better-half has succumbed and he's been sleeping more than usual.
Take it easy and curl up on the couch with a jar of Vicks.

@geezerette I hope you feel better soon, hope it is just some dust from the attic making you sneeze and not the yucky bug that's going around! Take care of yourself and get some rest.
