Re: ComPact 2017 – Doable December!

Happy New Year, Everyone.  I hope it is fantastic and wishing everyone the best in the new year. I am looking forward to starting fresh.

No big resolutions for me. Just looking to get healthy and fit. This alone will be a challenge.

@just bee, I hope everything is okay and hope 2018 starts better than 2017 seems to be ending for you.

@aprilskies

I was going to post the details of this last week of the year but decided that it would be very long and possibly a HIPAA violation.  That's the nice thing about my job: I'm not allowed to say much about what happens there and even if I did no one would believe me.

Let's just say that one of the things that happened this week was an expiring certification.  I'd enrolled in a class but had to cancel it because I couldn't have completed the skills session with a broken hand.

When I was cleared to return to work, the first thing I did was enroll in the next available class -- in January.  Then, when I was working over the holiday I received an email.  If I wasn't recertified by 12/31 I would be terminated.

Holiday week, end of the year, people out of the office, unreachable, and I was scheduled to work just about every day.  This was something that looked like an impossible situation.

Looooooooooong story, but I've analyzed recent events and have come to the conclusion that my life is very much like The Wizard of Oz.  A nice Midwestern girl who loves dogs encounters insurmountable problems, meets unusual people along the way, and catches some unbelievably lucky breaks only to encounter more insurmountable problems.

It's no wonder I have so many pairs of red shoes.

But there was a post-Christmas miracle and somehow I was able to get the certification.  That in itself is a loooooooooooong story.  A good story, too, but bordering on unbelievable.

After a week of insomnia, overtime, insurmountable problems, an individual with a very big gun and a miracle that, for now, restores my faith in humanity, I am ready to bid 2017 a fond adieu.

I want a weekend of rest and a bottle of Gruet Brut to toast the New Year.

There are times when one has to ask: Is the Higher Power trying to tell me something?

The universe came through for me in the nick of time.  Now it's time for me to get some more donations in before the IRS Season of Giving comes to an end.

A gentle reminder

A gentle reminder:

Not only is it the end of the year, but it's the end of a quarter.  Now is the time to replace all those items you replace after three months.

That was a whirlwind just reading your post, I can’t even imagine living the real thing!  I’m glad for you that everything worked out well.  Sounds pretty scary that you could have been terminated that quickly without any recourse and no one even available to contact.

Hope you have a nice quiet weekend and start the new year off better than the old one ended for you!🎊

Yes, but the Great Irony here is that if I hadn't tried so hard to get back to work before the holiday and just milked this thing for a few more weeks, I wouldn't have had to worry about any of this.

That was the kick in the teeth.

You and I sure do have a lot in common.  The online thing, for example, and frittering away my time browsing for things I don’t need (or even want) until I see them—and then I have to have them!  I guess that’s been true since the beginning of time and isn’t confined just to the Internet.  Marketing 101–and I continue to fall for it.  But I’m wasting too much of my life on things like that and rushing through what should be important in my life.  I don’t have enough time, energy, or brain left enough to multitask anymore.

I have a few resolutions for the new year and have been trying to make them feasible to accomplish so I won’t be discouraged and give up.  Like you, my main concern is eating healthy.  I’ve pretty much got a strategy down to allow myself one “treat” a week.  I think if I can eliminate the sweets, that is the main driver for me wanting to eat more junk.  I had my last fling for the last few days and right now I never want to see another potato chip in my life!

I hope we’re both successful next year!🤞🏻

Good intentions don’t seem to get rewarded anymore.  You are too conscientious for today’s society—you don’t know how to work the system like the slackers do.

On a completely different topic:  have you seen that there is another “Breaking Bad” marathon starting this weekend and continuing next?👀😃

When I was off work I slept well, ate well, took care of my skin and walked every day without fail.

The minute I got back to work, all that imploded.
