Re: ComPact 2017 – Appreciative April!

I've had another epiphany.  I was planning my Sephora sale purchases and having such a hard time finding things to buy.  I wondered why it was so difficult?  And why was I forcing myself to make a purchase?  Turns out I was trying to make my quota to keep my  status so that I can have the discount during the November sale.  But then I started to think, what do I really need to buy that I can only get at there?  There are so many options now, I don't need to keep my status at Sephora.  I looked over my purchases and stuff I finished up in the last few years and I could only find 3 products that are exclusive to Sephora AND that I would want to repurchase.  So why I am trying to make my spending quota for just a few items?  Also, knowing that my stash is still at 2 years worth, I really don't need to buy makeup this year.

Phew, that's a long rambling paragraph.  Hope you get my drift.  I planned out my purchases for the rest of the year, along with the products that I will be using (and hopefully finishing).  I am quite relieved to have a plan.  I'm appreciative.

No, but this could very well be a littermate.  I Googled "Easter dogs" and when I saw this one I thought it looked a little like the World's Greatest Dog.  Black with white markings.  Of course, WGD has never worn bunny ears.  I admit subjecting past pets to strange accessories, but WGD has managed to avoid humiliation.

In return, he behaves like a gentleman in public and spares his parents humiliation.  It's been a swell arrangement.

Hello need some advice please,but first I cancelled my autoships here on the Q and now I have to talk myself into doing the same for hsn auto ships.   ok maybe this is the wrong board to ask this but need to ask, if you work part time in retail and it seems your hours are getting smaller and smaller while the younger works hours are getting bigger,would you stay at this retail store? I have alot of debt do to all my credit cards thinking I could pay them with no problems well its not working that way for me now. I am so unhappy with my self right now and just don't know which way to turn etc...    I like the store i work at but not they way my hours are going and I know if I went to talk to the HR person she would say its all about getting credit apps thats whats gets you more hours. So I am torn  about what to do or not do.

@MeadowLark

It's difficult to give a cut-and-dry answer as to whether or not you should find another job. A lot depends on you and the details of your situation. If you're willing and able to cut back on your spending and other expenses, and you are making enough at your present job to pay enough on your credit cards to be able to pay them off in a time that is acceptable to you, then you could consider staying. However, if you can't do that, you probably should at least seriously consider another job.

Some things I would consider if it were me in your position: besides cutting back on most all my expenses, no matter how drastic, and spending nothing on anything new other than absolute necessities, do I own anything I can sell and get some extra money?

Also, do I think my hours at my present job are going to stay the same, or are they going to continue to shrink? If it looks like the latter, I might not be able to make enough there to even live on, let alone pay off accumulated bills. In that case, I'd need a new job anyway.

@And, as @aprilskies mentioned, do I think my situation would be any different anywhere else? Brick and mortar retail is having a hard time so I might be exchanging one problem for another one. Along the same line, is my age going to be a deterrent for getting any other job?

It depends on how much you're willing to conserve and how much money you owe. You can do a lot on your own, if you're willing. But don't beat yourself up about it over and over. It's really easy today for anybody to get into your situation. "Buy, buy, buy" is being shoved down our throats constantly. Just chalk it up to lesson learned and get to work starting to fix the problem. Little by little. It might take a while, and you'll need to be consistent.

Re: ComPact 2017 – Appreciative April!

Oh, dear. I got an email from Peter Thomas Roth saying they were having a major sale. I visited the website and they really were. One product I use daily was on sale for $15 that's usually $60. I got two. One for $20 that I'd always wanted to try, but at $85, wouldn't. I got two. Then I got two for $12 each of another that I really love, but it's usually $58. So, I spent a hundred bucks for spares.

I haven't decided if it was a good choice or not. The good thing is that I'll actually use them often, instead of being stingy with myself. What's that about, anyway? Would I be wasting them? Am I afraid I'll never have any more once they are gone? Would that be so bad? And why am I second guessing myself anyway? Smiley Frustrated

Thank you for trying to help me think differently about everything, now I have to start looking for another job but all I know is retail 😞.   Going to give up my auto deliverys on hsn it's mostly serious skincare facial cleansers. And now is the time to buy my cleansers from the drugstore when needed

There's absolutely nothing wrong with working in retail.  And you have to do what you know.  You probably have a great resume.  And remember that you're working toward a goal.  Who knows, you might land another job that you like even more than your current one!
