Here are my June goals.

Exercise and limit sweets!!!!!!!!!!!!  Enough said.

B&BW - buy only foaming hand soaps.

Skincare - purchase only replacement items unless Isomers has a great Vitamin C TTV or offers the Vitamin C products that I like in super sizes.

Cosmetics - purchase only replacement items except for nail polish.  It is summer, so I am going to treat myself to some new shades that are not like anything I already own.  Since I do not own too many nail polishes, this will not be difficult.

Clothes - get back into my business skirts and pants.  Purchase a few work tops.

That is all I can think of.  I might add one or two later.  Now, I am going to do some pushups, lunges, etc.  Join me!

Paws and enjoy life.

Barn owl update.  As of this post, one owlet remains in the nest box and my, how it's grown.  It was named Pearl but, after it fought off a hungry adult owl several times, it was renamed Rocky.

There are hundreds of comments on the site and many of them are unpleasant.  Those who are displeased by the unfortunate turn of events are clearly part of the "blame the barn owls first" crowd.  They suggest that the barn owl is somehow an inferior species -- a bird with bad moral character.  "The Great Horned owls wouldn't have acted this way!"  Excuse me, but Georgia wasn't under two feet of water, so how can you be so sure?

Comments are petty -- even cruel.  "Barn owls aren't that cute, anyway."  "Why even bother to name them if they're just going to eat each other?"

Really?  Blaming these birds for what happened?  Isn't that the worst case of fowl shaming?

This is simply a reminder that birds have it rough and that we take them for granted.  They are among the wonders of the world and we should recognize that.

How can someone look at little Pearl/Rocky's face and say she/he doesn't deserve our respect and support?

Sorry, but LOL.  I cant believe people are reacting in that way.  It is sad but it is nature, unfortunately.

A whole different attitude last year when they all rallied around little Ollie.  I hope this one pulls through.  The kid's got heart.

Confession time.  A few days ago, I thought it would be safe to look at the nest since it appeared that prey deliveries were resuming.  I was winding down, getting ready to turn in, and checked on the cuties.  I opened the site and saw the two owlets looking out the window and flapping their wings.  Within five seconds, an owl (I thought it was Dash, at first, but it wasn't.) stuck his head through the window and attacked one of the owlets.  The other owlet backed into the corner.  I closed the window and started sobbing.  My husband asked me what was wrong.  When I told him, he said, "Why do you watch that?"  So much for sympathy.  I am out completely.  I hope the remaining owlet survives.  Part of me hopes he finds the owls that killed his siblings and avenges their deaths in a very Godfather-like way.  But you all are right.  This is nature, and this is what happens daily.  We cannot save every animal.  If we did, the cycle that our world needs would change and cause much larger problems.

I didn't watch the owls the night of the abduction and even though I didn't see it, I replay the event in my head as if I had.  Little Rocky survived another night -- and a close call -- and at 0800 Mountain Time, he was doing well and savoring the memory of the rodent he'd swallowed whole earlier in the evening.  My coworkers have recoiled and stopped watching.  I'm hoping for the best but I'm prepared for the worst.

@just bee Thank you for starting this thread.  I don't contribute much but I do keep up on reading it.  You compactors provide of wealth of support. 😊

@dosey Congratulations on your new job!

@aprilskies I feel your pain about not announcing big goals and then not meeting them. Little by little is still good (progress, not perfection).

I have been on a bit of a spending spree lately.  I will use everything I have bought, but I also could have done without those things. I should be buying only needs at this time, rather than wants.

ETA:  I  am also on board for the HEP.  When one area of my life is out of control, the rest follows. Spending is out of control, as is eating, and no exercising. 😔

I figured it was time to start up HEP again.  I'm trying to decide on what I will give up -- and what the substitute will be.  Have to resist the urge to stock up on a new taste treat because as soon as I do, my tastes change.

And now, back by popular demand...

Hey, all you HEPcats and HEPdogs! We had discussed making the Healthy Eating thread a monthly jam session, so I just went ahead and did a little improvisation. This is an invite to our crazy crib where you can come and break it down! I say we go 18 karat on this and really swing. If healthy eating’s not your bag, no problem. But if it is, I dig.

It’s cool, I’m booted, let’s jump!

Piano Cat

So are you inviting us to join HEP?  My DD isn't here to interpret your post.

I'm not sure DD would be able to decipher it.  Mention swing and she might think you're talking about the thing at the playground.  Cuz it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing...

Then again, if she's into Lady Gaga, that might make sense.  And yes -- that's an invitation!

Congrats on the job!  Use your new schedule as an opportunity to create healthy meals and snacks for work.  Don't start going out for lunch or drinking the "wrong" beverages at your desk.  Got a lunch box?

One of my favorite snacks is an apple.  But if I bring an apple to work it becomes my commuter apple: I don't eat it -- I just drive it to work, then home again.  However, if it's cored, and a rubber band is wrapped around it and then it all goes (core, slices and band) into a plastic bag, I will eat it.  The band keeps it together so it stays crisp and doesn't turn brown.

I also like Halos peeled and piled into a plastic container so I can eat the slices with a fork.

And, of course, I always have water with me.

My June Goals =

I will allow myself 1 well-thought out beauty/skincare purchase. A no-buy will make me splurge so allowing 1 is a good step to narrow down the impulse buys.

I have reviewed my clothing including shoes and believe that I have enough for work and for casual wear. I will be doing a no-buy for these items.

B&BW semi annual sale - I will allow myself to buy 2 new candles. I will not leave the story with huge bags filled with shower gels that I will not enjoy but just bought since it was on sale.

I'm on board for a healthier June!!! My goal = do either weight training or yoga 4 times a week. I will add this on to going on long walks when weather permits. I think the weights and yoga will be a good way to remind myself of what our human bodies are capable of doing! Plus, I've always heard that adding muscle is one of the best things you can do when trying to drop weight/get healthier. I believe under these pudgie arms are some actual bicep and tricep muscles!! No, I won't expect to see a 6-pack of abs anytime soon but a decrease in belly jiggle will be a victory!!!!

Here is a sign that I know I have let myself go the past couple months - yesterday I dusted off a FIRM workout dvd that included both upper and lower body weights work and aerobics. I knew I was going a little lighter since it was a return to working out......but today my legs have been talking to me!!! The step ups, squats, and lunges have angered muscles that haven't been used recently. I was feeling the burn!!! I will be curious how long it takes of doing workouts regularly again so my legs don't talk to me when I walk up the 3 flights of stairs at work LOL.

Good goals!

@dosey I'll join you.  I've gained some weight (thank you menopause Woman Sad).  I'm still paying for some pants & cardigans I bought at least 5 months ago & Andrew Lessman vitamins (drat! easy & flex pays!) , I swear these things go on forever.  I am still in my peak stuff mode so I guess I won't be buying unneccessary things for a while.

Thank you!  That is a great apple tip.  I never thought of using a rubberband.

I blame menopause, too.  While there are benefits to menopause, there are definitely some real disadvantages.  Tonight, all I did was stretch.  The pinched nerve in my back is better but not completely gone.  I'll do some pushups and tricep dips in a few minutes, but that will be it.  This weekend, I plan on walking and mowing the lawn.

Before I go to sleep, I have to tell you what happened today.  It was incredible.

My kids and I have a tradition of having lunch at Panera when the school year ends.  Today, we sat next near the door to the courtyard.  While we were eating, I looked outside.  There were three young adults sitting at a table.  They were around 20 y.o.  Anyway, a little squirrel ran onto their table and then hopped on the shoulder of one of the girls!!  She was startled but did not freak out.  Instead, she put her hand on his back and gave him a piece of bread.  He took it and ran away.  It was so sweet.  My DS said he will never eat in the courtyard again because squirrels can have rabies.  True, but it was still an amazing thing to see.

P.S.  Except for eating at Panera, I did really well with my diet today and feel good.

Paws and enjoy life.
