Hello Compactors,

I have been enjoying the posts. I feel at times that I am reading my autobiography.

Happy Birthday to all you August babies.

I believe it was birthday girl Dosey who asked if and how Compacting has changed how we shop. I have been thinking about this question. I found this group around February 2013. After battling health issues that began in Dec. 2011 I realized that my stash of scented lotions and potions was way to much especially since I was supposed to be fragrance free. Fast forward to August 2015. I have learned what products are my holy grails and why I believe they are HGs. That acknowledgement has helped me avoid temptation. I buy HG products in large sizes because of the economy of scale, and usually have one back up. I do not want to be where I was in 2012 with hundreds of dollars of items that I can no longer use. I am much more thoughtful when I purchase kits. I need to know that I can use a majority of items in the next six months. I am also more aware of how long it takes to use up a product. I still struggle with colored items because I get bored with using the same colors over and over. I also still have not gotten the tea stash under control.

Hello, everyone!  Where did the weekend go?  This was S.C.'s tax free weekend, so DD and I shopped for school supplies.  I was surprised to see that the stores were not super crowded.  It was fairly normal.  The good news is that I spent less on school supplies than I have in a few years because DS did not need a backpack (His is in good shape.), and I did not need to buy an expensive TI calculator (DD and DS each have one.)  The bad news is that I spent $210.

Geezerette, have you thought about saving the new clothes for next year?  When I buy clothes late in the season, I do this.  That way, I have something new to look forward to.  Also, you might find that things you do not want to let go now will be easier to donate in a few months.

FindingMyJoy, I did watch the debates.  I only saw the final 25 minutes of the "Happy Hour" debate simply because I forgot it was on.  I really cannot believe that I forgot about it, but I enjoyed what I saw.  The "Prime Time" debate was disappointing.  At times, there was a juvenile tone that did not sit well with me.  Fortunately, this is just the first debate.  It was meant to be a way for candidates to let Americans see who they are, especially for the candidates who do not get much exposure.  There will be many more - Democratic and Republican - and they will become more interesting as the number of candidates decline.  Just bee, I, too, was happy with the number of viewers.  I hope that it only increases.

FindingMyJoy, I'm glad you mentioned the mattress pad that you bought.  DD wants one.  She says her bed is too firm.  I need a twin and hope that I find a good deal like you did.  $50 is a fantastic price!  Also, I looked at the Isomers kit that you found.  This could be the TTV.  If it is, I won't buy it.  I really want a kit with just C products.  Those are the products that I like the most and would be very happy with.  I am hoping that the $71.50 kit goes on sale during the visit.  Also, Isomers is having two TTVs - all day Friday and Saturday.  Hopefully, I will be able to restrain myself!

Oshare-girl, I am so happy that Guillermo had no major impact on you.  It does look like Hilda is heading your way, but it is supposed to decline quite a bit.  I am sure you will be prepared regardless of her strength.  Let us know when Hilda passes.  We'll be thinking of you!

DL2843, your answer is similar to what I have discovered.  We both have several HG products (or maybe products that aren't HG but really close) and no longer feel we need to try every new body lotion, for example.  I still have issues with some things (color cosmetics and facial skin care), but I have control over the other areas.  Here is a pat on your back.  Pat-pat!  (We really need more emoticons!!!!!)

This week, I bought a really cute Lisa Rinna vest.  It is my first fall/winter clothing purchase.  I really like it.  It was more than I usually would pay for a vest, but I am not buying clothes like I used to so I am fine with this purchase.  Now, time for true confession.  Oh, boy.  You know I told you about buying the blush, eye primer, and two eye shadow brushes a week or so ago.  Well, I love all of these things.  Great purchases.  No regrets.  I had a $10 off anything coupon from Ulta with no restrictions.  I decided that because the IT eye shadow brushes are by far the best eye shadow brushes that I have ever used and make a huge difference when applying eye shadow that I would buy two more and put them aside for when the first two wear out.  Well, .................. hummm .................... Ulta was sold out of the brushes, so I started looking around.  And ................ well, ...................... I saw the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics eye shadow palette.  It is so pretty.  I do not own any of the UD palettes or any of those huge eye shadow palettes.  I bought it.  I know I shouldn't have, and I thought about all of you while I was looking at it and what would I say to you, but I bought it anyway.  I cannot help but to flog myself.

Hey now, just bee has given us strict orders that August is a "no flogging" month!  I look at it like this:  all this compacting, downsizing, whatever you want to call it, is like work for a lot of us.  And people that work, especially consistently, get vacations from time to time.  Just think of August-no-flog month as a summer vacation from compacting.

Besides, you'd best listen to just bee.  I hear she's a pretty tough cookie, best not to get her riled up...

Good morning, geezerette!  I know I need to stop the flogging, but eye shadows and lip colors are the very last things I need to be buying.  I have more than enough, especially browns, taupes, and nudes.  It is a sickness, I tell you!  Smiley LOL

The debate was replayed last night, and I watched it, again.  Knowing what to expect and being able to ignore the occasional childishness, I could focus without the headache I had during the original broadcast due to my massive eyerolls.

It's good to find the products that work and just stick with them.  I thought I'd done that with tea, too, and I had my stash under control.  Now I'm trying a lot of different teas, trying to find one that tastes like tea.  I just made the mistake of ordering a selection and Better-half was concerned when he saw the package.  Many of the teas were in tins and he knows I can't part with empty tea tins.  I have tins from the 70s.  Don't ask.

I get an ULTA catalogue because I've had my hair cut there a couple times (one decent cut, one not-so-good cut).  I grabbed it and looked at those Urban Decay palettes.  I can see how those colors would be tempting.  But I do avoid that place because I don't want to start buying makeup again.  That's the one area that has really ComPacted.  Utilitarian all the way.
