I saw the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics eye shadow palette. It is so pretty. I do not own any of the UD palettes or any of those huge eye shadow palettes. I bought it. I know I shouldn't have, and I thought about all of you while I was looking at it and what would I say to you, but I bought it anyway. I cannot help but to flog myself.
Hey now, just bee has given us strict orders that August is a "no flogging" month! I look at it like this: all this compacting, downsizing, whatever you want to call it, is like work for a lot of us. And people that work, especially consistently, get vacations from time to time. Just think of August-no-flog month as a summer vacation from compacting.
Besides, you'd best listen to just bee. I hear she's a pretty tough cookie, best not to get her riled up...
I get an ULTA catalogue because I've had my hair cut there a couple times (one decent cut, one not-so-good cut). I grabbed it and looked at those Urban Decay palettes. I can see how those colors would be tempting. But I do avoid that place because I don't want to start buying makeup again. That's the one area that has really ComPacted. Utilitarian all the way.
The one I bought is just six basic colors. Very wearable. I have managed to stay away from the huge palettes because of this thread. All I do is count the number of eye shadows that would not be flattering on me. Nothing too glittery, too pale, too dark, warm, or any color that is not brown, taupe, gray, or cream. That eliminates so many colors from those big palettes making it easy to say no.

I am home all day today and maybe tomorrow. DS had oral surgery yesterday afternoon (some gum tissue and bone were removed). While I am taking care of him, I'll be checking the boards off and on. Hope anyone who wants to post does. Welcome to all new posters!

Hi everyone!
Can you believe it's approaching the middle of August? Sigh. Winter's almost here. LOL
I have to give myself a pat on the back. Monday was my birthday and I "allow" myself to buy myself anything I want on my birthday (well, and usually most other days too...lol). But, I was up in the mountains of Vermont farrrrrrrr away from Ulta or any department stores so I didn't buy any of my usual weaknesses - body products or makeup. I did buy some consumable maple goodies (maple syrup, maple cotton candy) and a new popcorn bowl. Actually, my hubby bought me the popcorn bowl as a present from our furbabies. The last thing I need is another bowl. But, this one can be dual purposed since it has a handle and a spout. So, it can be my popcorn bowl or a batter bowl! The only problem is now finding a space for it in a cabinet.
I hope everyone is having a good day. Dosey - I hope your DS recovers quickly and painlessly from his oral surgery.
Oh - one more thing - I have a job interview tomorrow at 4pm (EST) so would everyone please be so kind as to send a prayer or good thoughts my way for a successful interview? I would have to take a pay cut of up to $2,000-4,000/yr. but it would be about 20-30 minutes less commute and I'm hoping the benefits are better than where I am.
Thank you!

Brenda810 - Good luck with your interview, a pay cut for less of a comute is worth it, just think of the time you gain everyweek. Again, good luck, you will do well, Please let us know how it goes.
A while a go someone asked how this thread affected out spending - I find myself thinking about my purchases more carefully and I have not bought as much as I used to. Saying that, I did break down and buy a Dooney as is purse. I kept looking at this purse last year and then it sold out, so I don't know what this bag will look like when I get it. Hopefully, it is not badly damaged. Guess if it a flop I will be saving money by not keeping it. We will see.
Hope everyone has a great afternoon.

Brenda810 --
Any news? How did it go?

I think it went well. I haven't heard anything yet but they're still interviewing. As someone in HR, I know you have to do due diligence and not be impulsive. My commute currently is 28 miles each way and 35 minutes (if traffic doesn't back up). Last night, when I left the place where I interviewed, it was about 5.5 miles and 30 minutes in rush hour traffic. Hmmmm. But, it didn't FEEL like 30 minutes I think because I only had to travel a short distance. If I get the job, I'll have to explore some alternate routes.
If it's the Lord's will, then it shall be! If not, I have an interview at another place next Wednesday.

More crossed fingers and toes! As for me, I cannot deal with a long commute. If I could walk to work I'd be happy.

Hilda has passed us without any impact! Halleleuia! Sometimes we can get the "Peter & the Wolf" mentality hearing about all these potential hurricanes that end up blowing themselves out. But we know from past experiences that it only takes one big hurricane to leave lasting effects. So we are prepared. Thanks for well wishes!
Dosey, funny you mention the UD Naked Basics2 palette. I'm working on the first Basics palette and finally hit pan on one shadow this week. Hurray! It took about 7 weeks to hit pan on it. I like that these truly are basics and is relatively small, not one of those mega palettes that lead to decision paralysis. I can mix in other more shimmery or darker colors to use with it so I've been using it everyday. I don't know how the Basics2 is, but this one is strange. The 3 lightest colors are very firmly packed while the 3 darker colors are so powdery. I think that's how I hit pan so quickly on one of them. I just touch my brush in it and tons of powder is let loose. Hope the Basics2 palette is more consistent. I hope to hit pan on 4 of the colors before the end of the year. I believe I bought it in 2013 so this is on it's last hurrah and will be tossed at the end of the year.
I was able to NOT go to Costco this week. Instead I shopped for one week's worth of groceries at Safeway and it was just right! My fridge is practically empty. It's kinda scary.
Hearing about Brenda810's job hunt made me think, wouldn't it be awesome if I could Compact myself out of the need to work outside of the home? I would love to be a stay-at-home mom.

Good luck with the upcoming interview! Hopefully, it won't take too long for you to hear outcome for the one you already did. I think the waiting is the worst part of job hunting. I can make it thru the actual interviews but I HATE waiting to hear if I got it or not or need to do another one etc.
