I have been using the same eyeshadow for 4 years. It is almost finished I think that I will use it until May 1st then throw it out. It is a powder eyeshadow. Is 4 years too old? How long can you really use a powder? I wouldn't keep a cream product more than a year, but a powder?

I bought a small bareMinerals set close to a couple decades ago... two tiny pots of eye color and I started using one of the colors last year. It looks like I never opened it. These little pots last forever. I once fantasized that I'd collect one of every color and I am so relieved and grateful today that I didn't.

The mineral powder, I understand, is safe to use because it doesn't have any fillers or binders like the shadows in standard compacts. But if you haven't had a problem, I wouldn't fret. I'm not as picky about old shadow, but I am a little OCD about mascara. Now there's a breeding ground for ickiness.

Should be moving by August 1st. Very satisfied with our new home but now still stressed until we find jobs once were here. Flying back home tomorrow morning. Living in the NE part of ABQ.

Well, don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. It doesn't appear as if you'll have any of the questions I had -- and still have -- like:

"What the ___ was I thinking?"

But then there are those days like today when I wake up and go to the window and see balloons in the air. I never get tired of the balloons.

Congratulations! I'm happy for you and your pup. As frustrating as this place can be, there are perks. We don't see much in the way of natural disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, mudslides and earthquakes. Not as hot as Phoenix. Not as cold as just about any place north of us. Just about every day is sunny with skies so blue they look fake. Spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The smell of Russian olive blossoms in the spring is intoxicating.

OMGoodness! You have made me so happy! I sort of lived in Albuquerque a long time ago. I actually lived in Angel Fire but was going to UNM and had an apt. there I loved New Mexico and have many fond memories of my ten years there.

I started reading this thread because it seemed like such a good idea. I continued reading because you are such a nice group of posters. The posts showing concern for sundrops and her furbaby were truly touching.

I've been doing the FlyLady system for quite a while and have decluttered more stuff than I even realized I owned. {#emotions_dlg.scared} There's still a lot to be done and I feel certain that reading this thread will be a wonderful source of encouragement.

Thank you all.

Well, it certainly sounds like you've found the right place. You'll be a perfect fit here!

It will feel good to only keep necessities and get rid of things that were only used like once a year! When we get home tomorrow the compacting begins!!

You won't need all the heavy winter clothes you think you'll need. Twenty degrees in ABQ doesn't feel like twenty degrees. Fifty degrees is T-shirt weather. (Fifty degrees in Northern California is like the frozen tundra.) I have coats in my closet that I've never worn here.

Good luck with your pruning!

You'll be happy there I'm sure. There's so much to do around there. There's everything from the balloon fiesta to skiing. Santa Fe's only an hour or so up the road. There's great art there and a marvelous opera house. Having been around the oilfields all my life, I've moved around a bunch. Each place has had its own appeal.

My Mom always said that the only things in a home that really mattered were the ones breathing. That makes more sense to me every year!

Enjoy your next adventure!

I like that! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I know you will be busy, but if time allows, keep us updated on your compacting journey. These stories are so great to hear. You will feel so much lighter once you shed all the excess.

So frustrating, I forgot they existed, I really do not want more items to dust, if I saw them in a store I would not purchase them, so why is it hard letting them go?

And that's why we're all here. Why are we so attached to things we've collected? They obviously have value. To us. Usually only to us.

Sentimental fools are we. Maybe that's what makes the ladies who post here so darned nice.

I bet we all tried to save baby birds that fell from the nest when we were little.

Join the club! And I can count on one hand how much I mail in a year. But then there's the holidays.

I've been forcing myself to use the Christmas labels on my cards each year. Isn't that the silliest thing?

Home from ABQ. Already walked down to the basement, looked at so many filled boxes and said, "Out! Out!!." I really can't explain it, can't wait to get started and throw out stuff. Excited for a new life. Of course it will be difficult at times, but we're ready. Again, thanks to all who responded to me. I'll keep you informed as we go along.
