Am I right? Lizards with feathers. (Baby egrets are adorable.)

Okay, I take it back: These guys are just so ridiculous looking that they're cute. Yep, lizards with feathers--and sharp beaks!

Almost like baby dinosaurs with fuzzy mold growth.

I did get to see roadrunner babies up close and personal when we lived in southern Arizona. One pair made a nest on top of one of our porch posts. The whole family was pretty tame and would allow us to peek into the nest. We used to leave our sliding-glass door open a little to let the dog go in and out at will, and one day I walked into the house to discover a roadrunner perched on my couch in the living room just calmly watching out the front window. Thankfully, he/she was kind enough not to leave any deposits on anything before I could shoo him/her back outside.

We have a few roadrunners here too, but they're really shy compared to the ones in the desert. I hear them often, but rarely get a chance to see them. Love those characters.

That baby albatross looks like what I dig out of my dryer vent. A giant lint ball with a beak and feet. But soon he will become...

He's really rather elegant. I like his "smokey eye look". The beak does look rather intimidating, however. And not something I'd really like around my neck.

I'm convinced they imitate other animals. Sometimes when we're walking through the bosque or the petroglyphs with the dog, we'll hear what sounds like a dog in distress. Is it a dog? Is it a coyote? Nay, it is a roadrunner. It's weird.

It's funny that there's still a movement in this state to change the state bird. People think the roadrunner isn't a "nice" bird so it doesn't deserve the "honor" of state bird.

I think it's perfect for this state. Wink

A few days ago I was watching albatross cam and I saw four adults together. All of a sudden they started making sounds -- I swear it sounded like horses -- and they were either dancing or fighting. It's as if they were fencing with those beaks. But the choreography was so precise -- it really did look like some sort of dance. I don't know if it was the parents arguing with the visiting in-laws or what. But it was fascinating.

Geezerette -- have I posted the bird cam addresses here? I can't remember. In case I haven't, these are my current addictions.

There are others, but this is a good start.

The eagle (mom or dad?) is having lunch with the babies right now. Looks like part of a fish. Ewwww!
I watched that one too up until she starting pulling out bloody strings of stuff. Uh, ewww. No thank you. Did you catch one of the babies trying to fly? Not yet little guy. Too cute.

The mouse is acting up so I'll see if it will work for me. It's always something. I'm thinking about moving into a nest. Something small with low maintenance.

I'm pretty sure that one in Georgia's available!

Scooch over, I am coming too.
