I just read that last sentence that I typed and had to shake my head at myself. Deprived, really? What the heck am I talking about? Not only do I have plenty of beauty items, I have plenty of everything, a nice house, two great kids, a great husband, lots of good food to eat, plenty of warm clothes to wear, the list goes on and on. There is nothing that I NEED that I don't have. That sentence sounded really selfish after I wrote it and I actually felt a little ashamed because I know I have more than enough. Maybe that's part of my problem, never being satisfied and always wanting more. I need to learn to be content with everything I have. That will start to be one of my new daily goals, being thankful every day for everything that I have been blessed with and focusing on what I have, not what I want.

Happy New Year!!

I'm back for my year 2 of the compact. 2013 I consider a success. I greatly reduced the intake of new items especially make up kits. I enjoyed shopping from my stash. The best lesson I learned was to just pause and really think if I need the item or just ""want"" it. Most often it's just the ""want"" just to get something. This urge will pass if given time.

A goal for 2014 - continue to fight the urge to buy makeup today specials just because they are a ""good deal""! I have found that I rarely enjoy all items in a kit. The rare exception was Laura Geller's fresh brewed AD and I'm really liking the holiday Bare Minerals AD. The fresh brewed AD ended last year. I think I may keep the BM AD - I really liked the items and will use them. There wasn't a dud in it once I learned the right application technique. This may be the makeup splurge that I allow myself thru the year since I don't need anything else just the routine replacement of my Neutrogena foundation when current one empties. Could I really make it all year just with the BM AD as the incentive of new purchases for makeup each 3 months??? It's a good idea!!

This is my first time posting here but I'm on board with a no buy for January. I'm going to try to stop shopping with qvc for the year. I have way to much stuff and a problem with impulse buying and regret later. I'm going to allow 15 purchases for this calendar year of beauty items. I'm also going to work on the clutter that is my home. My goal is to get rid of 10 items a month and to go through my son's toys to either donate or store for if we have another child this year. It's going to be tough but I'm sticking with the it takes 30 days to make something a habit. It's day 2 of ending that habit of shopping for unneeded things.

I am new here, and am excited. My goal for January is to buy NOTHING. My goal for the year is to buy ONLY what I need instead of things that I want. I retired in 2012 and realize that I need much less. Good luck to all.

Hi,

Just a question and my rule for purchasing kits.

First, it seems like many members set goals not to spend any money, in the same way an alcoholic's goal is not to drink. Is that correct?

Does everyone make this their goal?

Second, My rule for kits:

The cost of the kit must be less than the items in the price of the items in the kit that I will actually use. If this rule is not met I do not even think about it.

If part one is met, I will only purchase it if it is on my needs or need soon list or it is in my treat fund and the money is available,

For example my most recent makeup purchase was the tarte holiday trio of Gifted mascara. I needed mascara (yes needed) and had it in my budget and it is my favorite mascara. I break the 3 month rule because no one else ever even sees my mascara, I use it correctly and since I use it only a couple of times a week, there will be way too much thrown away. If I get an infection, my eyes become irritated or it begins to smell bad or dry up I don't hesitate to toss it. The other kit I bought was a bareMinerals all eye shadow kit that was an amazing deal, I budgeted for it, and I can use most of the colors, it never goes bad and the colors I don't use, my best friend will and it will be her birthday gift!

I think those where the only makeup purchases I made last year.

Welcome to all new people. To Annnacat and Wildob3: 7 years ago I lost 65 lbs. I still remember the day I got rid of my so called fat clothes. I bawled and I was shakey. Everyone around me kept saying that I would be so happy getting rid of my fat clothes, but I was not. I had many beautiful pieces. I still remember a wool yellow blazer that I loved. My advice to you is to take time to mourn your loss. Cry if you need to. Get angry if you need to. It is not easy tossing memories. Losing weight is not all sunshine and happiness. Good luck with your goal. I am 7 years at my goal so it can be done.
