I'm starting Day 26 of not buying anything non-essential. I really wanted the Joy cosmetic/etc. organizer set yesterday...and still do. I just told myself it wasn't worth breaking the non-buying streak as it could be purchased later even if it were a higher price. I have mixed feelings about it, especially after seeing the HSN price on it today. It is available at Amazon at a lower price. This may have been one time I made a bad call. I would declutter more right now but until the snow clears, Waste Management makes a run, and I'm able to get on the highways to the city, things are beginning to get in the way as I have no way to get it out of the house. Waste Management has been unable to run for a week because of the weather.

Dosey, I just found out that two whisper knits I had on waitlist since July 2013 are shipping. I am not going to cancel them, because they are two items I really want. Instead, I am going to release two more items from my spring wardrobe once the whisper knits arrive and I have had the chance to make sure the color is good for me. And I agree, the no buy has been harder than anticipated.

Honestly, I wouldn't cancel them either. They have been a planned purchase for more than six months. That's okay. Is whisper knit Linea? I've read that his things sell out quickly. All the more reason not to cancel.

After giving it some thought, I have decided to buy the Skinnytees TSV at the end of February. I can really use these. Because I am tall, it is really hard to find layering pieces that are truly long. And these are adjustable. The tank will stay at the length I pull it to. This will give my tops more versatility because some of them could use more length to wear with slim pants. When I receive the tanks, I will donate the same number of things in my closet. There are some ladies who post on the fashion board that they follow the one in, one out rule. That rule is sounding better each day! Smiley Happy

Yikes! Those bags are now too expensive but wait it out. All colors are still available. I predict an event price and free shipping in a month or two. Can't wait to read the reviews.

Oshare-girl,

I agree. All I have to do is look at my stash, and it doesn't really matter if I can get toothpaste, deodorant, or razors for .50. I've done this so many times that I have a half dozen of each. Right now, my desire for more space and less clutter is enough to keep me from spending the money on non-necessities. Even if I have to spend a $1.50 later on, it's worth it to not deal with that overwhelming feeling of just having too much. My husband has noticed, but he hasn't been entirely positive. We'd gotten down to 2 tubes of toothpaste, and he asked my why I wasn't getting the deals anymore, and that we're about to run out. Prior to my deciding to pare down, we easily had a dozen tubes of toothpaste. Any time I could get it for .50 or less I bought it. He's always been the type of person who has to have a spare of everything, so he's not fully on board with my decision. However, he is happy to see me clear out my stuff!

Dosey,

The Skinnytees are tempting me. I am also tall and would really like to have some longer layering pieces. The adjustability makes them even more so. If I decide to buy them, I will also plan on donating something to offset this purchase.

I agree it has been a little challenging lately, on the no buy. However, I am glad I have remained strong. Because if I had bought any mu, bath, or lotion, it would be 2015 or worse, 2016 before I could use it. So much is in line to use.

Dosey try a pawn shop for the calculator. Several of my students have bought the TI for under $20.

I didn't see the sales person, but she got me to sit down and try some things. The palette looked great on me so I bought it. The good news is, I didn't buy everything I saw and I had my reward certificates which were double today, so I got the palette for free. I am dragging myself back on the wagon now...

kns110, 24 days of no spending is good. And, it sounds like something you will use and enjoy. And it sounds like you were thoughtful about your purchase. Maybe there can be a trade off, a way to reduce your stash?

ITA. You actually won this battle, because you now are making purchases thoughtfully. You said that before you would have bought everything, but you didn't, Look at how much money you saved yourself, and your stash. Good job.

ITA with MMim and NetteJ. It was free. Now, find something you can let go, and it will be an even trade.

You've done a great job. This no buy was much harder than I thought it would be. One free cosmetic isn't bad at all. Smiley Happy

Thank you all for your support and kind words. I really don't have the urge to buy anything else, which is a nice change. I will be looking for something to get rid of soon. Then it's onto cleaning a room up, most likely finishing the bonus room we have that will be a play room for the kids so we can actually use our closets.

It sounds like everyone is doing great this month. Being conscious of purchases can make so much difference! I like the sound of the One Room Challenge. We recently organized things and did some cleaning up, but less clutter would help the house stay clean longer.{#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

I think for me that starting with my bedroom closet would be best, it's cluttered with my stuff and is also a storage place for other things as well. My closet feels like a big undertaking, but the idea of a full month (even a short one) makes it seem more achievable. I picked up a couple of sturdy storage bins (buy one, get one 50% off) to help with the process. I could have bought more, but I went for the minimum of two to see how they work and maybe encourage me to get rid of more excess.{#emotions_dlg.blush}
