Re: ComPact 2014 -- December

Well, ladies, we are almost at the end of another year. I have stopped making resolutions because I never stick to them, but this year I am making a few. Well, maybe goals is more like it. I am only choosing three or so things to work on. I have so many but know I will not succeed if I try them all. I have already put two in play and one I am doing good so far, the other needs some work. I joined a gym the week before Christmas and I have gone now at least 4 times. Simple walking and trying not to overdo it but that is hard. Yesterday, I overdid it. I don't want to hurt myself before I even get started. I need to be more mindful. I also cancelled cable but kept the Internet. This is a big one for me and I do miss it but it has only been a few days so I am hoping to get use to it. I do stream shows and movies so all is not lost but this was the only way I can get out from in front of the tv. Has it worked so far, nah, I am streaming more than I like, but I will get there, I hope. I spend way too much time surfing channels. I am hoping the gym and other things will help with that. So hard when you come home beat from work and just want to veg out.

Our PACT here, I have fallen off these last few months and need to climb back on. I wish I could say it was only one category but I have been well rounded in my buying. On the bright side, I don't need a thing so I will begin using what I have and try to control myself. However, I will be lying if I said it wasn't fun. Lol. Although, it reminded me how you think what is innocuous spending, really adds up. So, back on the PACT I go.

I hope 2015 is a great year for all of us. Here's to making it a great year.

Re: ComPact 2014 -- December

So January's almost here and I'm looking forward to changing out the old for the new (new tube of mascara, new toothbrush, new blade in the razor, new (Brand X) body Buf-Puf in the shower...) I'm looking at the Costco and Sam's coupon books and am planning to stock up on household basics (mostly kitchen items like Ziploc bags and bathroom items like deodorant and toothpaste). I might even invest in one of those monster boxes of baby wipes ($5 off coupon).

I really don't need any toiletries or cosmetics and will probably get through 2015 without those purchases. It took me six months to get through a tube of Lumene CC cream, and I have two more in the closet. I think I may be covered. Already have my annual stash of mascara. The only thing I might need? Possibly a bottle of shampoo at some point. We'll see.

Aprilskies -- hop back on!

Yes, Aprilskies, hop back on. One day at a time; beating yourself up doesn't help. The holidays are such a difficult time to stay on board. I do have shopping carts online with items in them, as I just like to shop. I have been making my own baby wipes and toothpaste (Pinterest) and have been very happy not to have to be bringing in more things in this house. I have found that the baby wipes have a chemical in them that is an irritant. I am still shopping my closetS, but I am trying to get my closets down to just the one. Revisted the stash the other day, and can't see where I need anything yet. I really can't see where there will come a time when there is a need. It will soon be time to start another year of compacting. JustBee, you always have just great words of wisdom for us; thanks for being the voice of reason.

I am till losing & dropping sizes so I will need to buy lots of clothing next year as my size changes. Once I stop losing I will have a big challenge - how to build a quality wardrobe that will last but not buy in excess?

When you find out, let the rest of us in on the secret!

I'm more than a little concerned about this. I love shopping! It is nice having an excuse all the time, especially when it is for smaller clothes instead of bigger ones. But I don't want to find myself with too many clothes. That would be stressful & expensive. Maybe the secret will be a very well organized closet.

Happy end of 2014 Compactors. I used up 121 beauty products this year. In 2013 I used up 140 (although 17 of those were items I gave away.) I thought I would have used less this year since I was so focused on using up all those 1/2 used bottles last year. I was also shocked that I used up 44 body lotion products this year. My goal for next year is to not buy any more paperbacks. I got rid of 100's a couple of years ago, but those $0.10 garage sale books got to me. I also went through my TWO closets today and I do not need any more clothes. Good luck with all your 2015 goals.

I've always fantasized about having everything in one closet, color-coded, and with space between each hanging item.

This is what I still cannot understand: I have oodles of lotions and I never use them. Right now my hands look like the hands of a 127 year-old, yet I never ever reach for hand cream or hand lotion. And I have tube after tube, bottle after bottle. I don't get it.

Re: ComPact 2014 -- December

JustBee, I struggle with the exact same thing as far as hand lotions. I have to make a real effort to put the lotion on even though my hands will hurt from detergents and weather, and I have such a stash of lotion. I would imagine nursing is even worse. I, too, don't get it.
