Has anyone tried those drinks?  Did they brighten up your skin?  I'm just curious.  My skin looks pretty good but everyone can use a boost, right?  Probably just another scam to separate us from our $. What do you think?

@MoJoV   I personally think there are many other things to do to have better skin....none include drinking collagen. Topical Vit. C can brighten the skin as well as drinking plenty of water. Salmon or fatty fishes add oils to your skin that help a lot. Also general good skincare habits like spf, deep cleansing, exfoliation and lots of sleep work well.

I also follow "FlavCity" on FB...the influrencer guy who talks all things nutrition, and supplements...and while not an "expert" other than to have researched all this stuff for his own life, turned influencer being paid to do so...all that considered...I have learned a lot about reading the ingredients and what they really mean on our food products. Anyway...he always promotes taking daily collegen...I forget if he does a powder or something else...and I also forget what brand. At any rate he has me thinking about taking collegen too. I just know so little about it, and I don't take anything until I'm comfortable with having educated myself on it.

@amyb  I know he likes Vital Proteins (blue canister and a deal at Costco), it's a popular one with a lot of folks. I watch him (and Rose) too, but really have to sift through it to gleen anything.  He is all over the place (sort of keto/low carb one day, paleo the next) and I've caught him calling things keto that really aren't, making recommendations from only a carb count perspective, rather than considering ingredients and how they affect insulin. The videos are entertaining but I don't swallow him hook, line, and sinker.  It's still up to me to do my own research and choose appropriately, what I'm going to put in  my body.

the costco deal is great right now,

I agree with @Shanus  regarding the brightening.  Collagen replacement may have its place, but it's not a brightener.  Look to Vitamin C, antioxidants, and Niacinamide for that.

I have been using collagen powder mixed with my Protein whey protein powder and mix it with water for about 5 months after I workout.  Over time, I do think it has helped my nails for sure.  I am still not sure about my hair and skin.  I guess my nails were the biggest improvement since they needed the most attention.  But I have no comment about premixed collegan drinks as I find them overpriced and using powders mixed with your liquid of choice is the best option, imo.

Yes, agree on all. I'm not keto or paleo. I've been conscious of reading labels for 30 years...but still have plenty to understand, and I learn a lot of that from him. What certain weird ingredients really mean, "are another name for msg" etc..

As far as the brands he pushes, I haven't bit yet. I don't have a Costco membership (tho' there do seem like good deals there...I don't live close to one, am in a Condo, not buying big quantities etc)...I shop Fresh Market,(he never does hauls from FM, much as myself and others always ask) Big Y, occasionally Trader Joes. I am planning on checking out Dollar Store as he's opened my eyes to buys that can be found there.

Yes...I learn from him the way I do from seeking out info elsewhere. The Rose videos are adorable. His recent videos from the fast food places were interesting.

I agree...he's a bit MANIC in his lives (especially now that it's just him, Dessi and baby)...hard to follow him sometimes...and I listen a bit, tune out. I know the info is there when I'm seeking it. I did order his first book from Amazon last year but returned it...too much in the weeds, and ingredients I just knew I wasn't running out to get for each recipe...tons of stuff I don't keep in my pantry...too complex. I'm betting his 2nd book is an antidote to that one...easier for the average person to follow.

@pet sitter 4 u   I'm thinking it may have been the protein that helped your nails. I've eaten a high protein, low carb diet most of my life and although I keep my nails quite short, they are strong.

Hi! What's the difference? I tried to see if he was going to answer the question. Thanks!

@Franklinbell

The answer is in my post. Free range is derived from cowhide and the marine from fish scales.

If I remember correctly the Algenist collagen serum is plant based (if that's important to you)

That's not correct. Plants or algae (which is not a plant) do not contain or make collagen. Those only provide substances (sometimes called pro-collagen) which may boost collagen formation. Algenist products contain collagen but that's not from any algae or algae by-product. The collagen in Algenist comes from an animal. Algenist is not vegan, although they do sell a vegan line which does not contain any collagen.

Nah, it really wasn't b/c I've been drinking Whey Protein powder + water for years with no measurable difference in my nails.  Protein for me builds muscle strength.  But when I added the collagen powder that is when I saw the difference for me.  I do think each micronutrient affects each person differently. But thanks for your reply.  Have a good day!  Smiley Happy

@MoJoV   For a few years I took Andrew Lessman's collagen powder mixed in 4-6oz organic 0% sugar. I then discovered much better ingredients in a collagen mix from a much better site called LiveConscious.com. This site is so much more informative on collagens and ingredients and why their's is so much better for me.

Check out this site for infomation, ingredients and why it's better than most on the market (liveconscious.com)

I do believe taking collagen has really helped me in nail & hair growth, better for my overall health.

I use collagen power mixed with morning coffee. The "dramatic" difference I notice is my hair...a bit thicker. I drink alot of water and take good care of my skin so I guess that in a year or so (and covid time too !!!) my skin hasn't aged.
