Re: Coconut oil

[ Edited ]

Years ago I read that it is highly comedagenic, so I would never use it on my face.

We use to use it for cooking as it was the latest "healthier" trend. A year or so later it was discovered it is not healthier for you. So, we stopped cooking with it for the most part.

Both of my grandaughter's, 1 year old and live in two different states, pediatrician recommended coconut oil for the babies dry skin. After bathing the girls we warm up and melt some coconut oil in our hands and rub all over, of course, avoiding the face area. They smell so yummie afterwards.

During the winter I keep my house fairy cool and that makes my butters and oils solidify and become very hard. My jar of coconut oil is rock hard right now and it's very difficult to get it out and spread it around so I never use it.

@Shanus   I don't use it on my face...but I do use it on my feet (especially heels) and legs...arms and elbows. I also use it for my hair....I use a very tiny amount (same with my hair oils) rub my palms together and do a very light once over my hair and rub into the ends.  I have wispy hair and it gives my hair a more polished look and keeps the ends from drying and splitting.

Yes....great for the body and hair.  Love the smell and results.

@phoenixbrd   I tried it as a face cleanser (it clogged my pores) a long time ago. On my hair difficult to shampoo out.

Any tricks?

My mom used coconut oil for cooking growing up but then studies indicated that it was an artery clogger so she switched to refined oil. Now its good again, the joys of all these science/studies....

Now I use it for most of my seasonings. I have always used it for hair/scalp care, leave it on overnight & wash it off the next day. I don't normally use it on my face/body, combo skin here and it most defintely will clog my skin. It is great if you ever intend to get a body massage but then washing the tub/shower is a nightmare.
