Chi Smart Gemz plate scratched?

I just got my Chi Smart Gemz. When I went to use it this morning, I noticed that one of the plates had a bunch of small scratches on it. Did anyone else's arrive this way?

 

This is my first flat iron.  Is it normal or the plates to get scratched up?  Does anyone know if that will affect it's performance?

I didn't order this particular one, but you want those plates to be smooth.  I'd return it for an exchange.  Since it's defective/damaged, you won't be docked for the shipping.  Call CS and they'll note it on your account and then fill out the return slip appropriately, noting the defect.
