@monicakm Burt's Bee's and Beekman chapsticks work wonderfully!   I believe Aquaphor is more of a protectant rather than a treatment.  It is a great product and is much better than Vaseline (I wouldn't ever use petroleum jelly on my skin).  You would most likely benefit more from the other two I mentioned.  Good luck, I feel your pain as I've had chapped lips my entire life Smiley Sad

@LindaSal If you use Aquaphor, you DO use petroleum jelly on your skin...it just has other ingredients in addition to petroleum jelly, where Vaseline is pure petroleum jelly.

@monicakm - Another Aquaphor user here.  I've used the regular Aquaphor ointment on my lips - not the one specifially made for the lips.

@Icegoddess   I also use the Vasoline Petroleum jelly, but I add a pinch of sugar to a few spoons of the Vasoline in a clean glass jar (sample size jar).  That bit of sugar is just enough to remove some of the flakiness immediately

The main ingredient found in Aquaphor is petrolatum (40%)...aka petroleum jelly, brand name 'Vaseline', gel form of mineral oil...all the same thing. Aquaphor also contains synthetic wax (similar to beeswax), lanolin, vitamin B5,  glycerin and an anti-inflammatory.

Burt's Bees Lavender and Honey Lip Butter is another great product

This is so funny! When I was a child, we sold Smith's Rosebud Salve as fundraisers! Seems I remember it was sold as the end-all product that you could use for everything.

I use Carmex before I go to bed, love it. Also Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm during the day. Not sure why I shouldn't use any product with petroleum but I've got about half a dozen tubes of all kinds of lip balm/chap stick, and they all, with the exception of Burt's Bees, have petroleum as #1 ingredient.  I'm old so I'm guessing it's not an instant death thing.

I stand corrected.  Turns out the Aquaphor Lip Repair is a completely different animal.  No petroleum jelly in it at all according to the ingredients listed on the tube:

Octyldodecanol, C18-38 Alkyl Hydroxystearoyl Stearate, Ricinis Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Panthenol, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Water, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Bisabolol, Beeswax, C20-40 Alkyl Stearate, Magnesium Stearate, Magnesium Sulfate

That being said, I'm still a big beliver in petolatum and don't hesitate to use it, even on my lips.

I happened to have a tube I bought on our last ski trip which I actually bought to put on my raw nose.  I was looking for, and planned to purchase petroleum jelly, but this was what was available in the tiny store where we stayed.

@monicakm You may be using something that is causing your chapped lips.

Whitening toothpaste/mouthwash both make my lips so sore & dry.

Certain lip balms (Nivea & EOS both hate my lips.) & a lot of lip colors.

About Face Cherry Pick Lip Color Butter is the most recent. I bought 3 colors on sale at Ulta (Because Musings Of A Muse told me to. LOL).

They make my lips peel.

Pat McGrath MatteTrance Lipsticks don't work for me.

So you may need to look at a cause, as well as a treatment.

Fenty “plush puddin’z” intensive recovery lip mask. I had never tried this brand before, but one of my friends recommended this. I am SHOCKED at how well this works.
