Re: Changing Hair Stylists Again

I have no problem telling a new stylist how I like my hair and what I want.  The prices I have been charged I definitely want a good cut.  You are paying for it so dont accept sub-standard if you dont like it say so.  If you get home and realize that your cut looks terrible, call the back and tell them you would like to have it re-styled.  As long as you let them get away with crummy service they will continue.  If they bulk at your complaint, then find another stylist.

I know my hair is vey hard to cut, super thick and curly.  When I moved to my present location 2 1/2 yrs ago, I got really, really lucky and found a gal that does a wonderful job for a very reasonable price.

Supercuts.  Under $20 including a tip.  Maybe I'm not fussy but I wear my hair short and get a simple cut, no "styling" for me.  In the 20+ years I've been going to Supercuts in NYC, Las Vegas and now in Chicago I have never had what I would consider a "bad" haircut.  Would never spend $50 or more for something that needs to be done every 4-6 weeks.

Yes, if you have a simple cut with no color or little styling, you can pay less.  I look better with no gray and longer hair so need the expertise of a good stylist.

Re: Changing Hair Stylists Again

The average cost in my area for a experienced stylist is $65.  I am on a fixed income so I go with the one year of experience for $42.  I have to say that I have had the expensive stylist and they did not do a $65 job so why pay the extra?   I believe you either have the talent in you or you don't.  If this doesn't work out, my next stop is the Barber.

If you are older and want an older style cut, you have to go to an older stylist.

Re: Changing Hair Stylists Again

I wear my hair very short, spikey, colored and highlighted. Before I had gray in my hair I cut and highlighted my own hair for most of my adult life! I guess I should have been a hair stylist because no one ever believed I did my own hair. Now that I have salt & pepper hair and am retired, I decided to give up my "talent" and invest in a good stylist! I'm not going to do cheap anymore. I found a gal in a town nearby that always does a great job on my hair! I surely don't mind paying more for my hair now, since I did it for free for so many years!

@Sooner  On the contrary, I prefer younger but I am not against an older woman or man.  Hard to find in my area.  I don't discriminate.

@Imaoldhippie  I do tell them how I like but sometimes you cannot tell when they are cutting it.  I bring pictures too.

Re: Changing Hair Stylists Again

I am so tired of changing stylists!! They all start out great then over time they forget how to cut hair  Smiley Sad

I have been going to Great Clips lately and they do a decent job on a haircut, if I tell them exactly what I want done!

@Katcat1  I am hearing a number of women say that their stylists don't know how to cut or perm hair, so I am guessing that older women sometimes can't get the styles they like from the younger stylists.  They simply aren't trained in the cuts and processes of yesterday.
