Changes since I quit using skincare.

I am 63 & I have never had good skin.

Started breaking out at probably 12-13 & my skin still breaks out.

Wrinkles, grey hair & pimples. Wooo hooo.

I can not even imagine how much money that I have spent on skincare.

I have tried some of everything through the years.

I would think something was making a difference & I would be so excited.

Then nothing really changed & I would get bored & try the next new thing.

A year ago I was using Beekman. Moisturizer & the serums.

I used it all for about 6 months & then I quit.

My skin looks no better. It looks no worse.

I use argan oil as makeup remover.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser.

Trader Joe's Supreme Hydrating Eye Cream

Beekman Bloom Cream or Cosrx Oil Free Lotion with Birch Sap.

It's easy. It's cheap. I see no difference.

Why not go to a dermatologist?  Probably would have saved you money.

After I started using tretinoin (Retin-A), I got rid of most of my skincare products I was using up until that point. Tretinoin addresses nearly all of the signs of aging skin so why waste time and money on stuff that's not doing anything or what tret can do?

@Dusty1   Sorry you're down on yourself. That stinks. I agre about a derm to help with adult acne. I think you'd so happy with those results.

Skine care: I agree w/ @SilleeMee that tret is a miracle for skin at any age. It allows you to skip a lot of steps. I only use tret, moisturizer and sometimes Vit.C serum under my SPF, which btw is crucial if using Retin A (tretinoin). It makes your skin more sun sentitive.

It can be so depressing, frustrating and expensive to remain upset about one's facial skin condition !   Please reread the posters' comments who have found a viable solution to their skin condition which centers on the help a dermatologist can give using retinol / tretinoin.

SPF is absolutely necessary in conjunction with this drug.

Please give us some feedback after working with your dermatologist...it will help others.

Thru my teen years and into adult hood, I've had pimples.  Skin/pimple care has gotten better.  When I hit menopause, OMG, the pimples were horrible.  I'd get rid of one and 2 more would take it's place.  I use Differin Gel, PanOxyl Face Wash and Hero Pimple Patches for acne.  Philosophy facial wash before PanOxylx to remove dirt and makeup.  And I use CeraVe Am & PM moisturizer.  I don't live close to family or friends that I grew up with, when I do see them, they always comment on my skin (how good it looks).  I do understand what you're saying.  My daughter has acne issues, hormonal acne, and has been seeing a dermatologist for over a year.  Tried so many prescription creams.  She's going off to college this fall and doesn't want to go back to the dermatologist.  Maybe over one of her breaks we'll try to find a new one?  But in the meantime, she's been handling it on her own and I'm actually seeing better results than with the MD.

All my life I've had the same skin as you. I was always told I didn't wash my face with soap enough. Not true.

In my forties a dermatologist told me it was hormonal acne.

I stopped using soap, acne ointments, liquid makeup, the whole makeup thing we gals love.

I'm 72 and use only Cetaphil cleanser and moisture lotion. I use Laura Geller brush on blush and some of her products.

My skin shines and looks healthy, I still have an occasional break out.

I found Cetaphil to be a god send.

Re: Changes since I quit using skincare.

A few years ago, on a different site, there was a quiz about 5 or so ingredient lists for "moisture" creams.  We had to rank them by price based only the listing.  It was a hoot.  The markup on skincare is sky high.

I am 70 and never had good skin.  Acne started around age 13.  I had to take Accutane around age 35, my skin was horrible.  That helped tremendously.

Now I use retinA and my skin is decent.   I've always been oily, so few wrinkles although I am sagging.  I use Trader Joe's oil free moisturizer.  I wash with baby shampoo or CeraVe cleanser.  I also tried higher end skincare products and never saw a difference.

I also recommend seeing a dermatologist. You don't have to live with pimples.  Color your gray hair if you are unhappy with it.  63 is not old.

Re: Changes since I quit using skincare.

I'm in my mid 60's.  I bounced around with skincare in my teens and twenties, didn't bother much when I was having babies, raising them, and being the mom taxi.  Around my mid 40's I started getting more serious.  I began with Philosophy since I didn't know any better, but moved on to K-Beauty.  Then I heard about a guy named Dimitri and was loyal to him for a very long time until I met Skip & Amanda. My loyalty then was divided.  Upset with Dimitri, I recently divorced him and rediscovered K-Beauty again.  I should have done that a long time ago!   I'm still fond of Skip & Amanda but my loyalty is still divided.  Along the way I had a brief stint with Tretinoin, but quit, then got back on a few years ago.  I love doing my skincare and the benefits, for me, have been obvious.  I look younger than my years and my skin is in better condition than my sisters' complexions when they were my age.  I don't plan to quit anytime soon.
