Re: Can we talk SLEEP? (Hey, it's beauty) Or, should I say Lack of It - Cannot fall asleep!

I exercise 6 days a week - weight lifting, cardio, fast walks, 21 Day Fix workouts plus I walk my dogs, I have worked out for 19 years ALWAYS 6 days a week. I've tried morning and afternoon & evening workouts nothing seems to make a diff either. I used to just DROP to sleep after my workouts, I know exercise helps and I'm not giving that up no matter how tired I get, I lost over 100lbs 19 years ago and I'm not letting 19 years of hard work go down the tube.

I'm not sure if your lucky or not. I have the opposite issue. Recovering from a metabolic problem and sleeping 10 hours a night. I hate it. It makes me feel lazy and like I'm not accomplishing half of what I want to do. That and I sleep more of the day away. Its like my body is trying to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. At least even if its slow, I'm recovering. I wish you luck with this issue, when your sleep isn't right your whole body and life is off. Take care.

Thank you!! Well, lets share, I'll give you some Insomnia and you give me some of your sleep, seems fair to me Smiley Wink

I have been to my Dr 3 times in the last 8 months and even a Endocrinologist - I am currently set up to see a Sleep Specialist but they cannot get me in till DECEMBER!!!! I might be DEAD and resting quite well by then!

Anyways - I'm 42 and about 8 months ago this all came on, I could not sleep - prior to that day I slept like a baby my whole entire life, NEVER EVER had an issue even while stressed, I even slept like a baby through a divorce!!!

I've tried Magnesium, Calm, Liquid Melatonin, Valerian, Lemon Balm, Andrew Lessmans Sleep product, Hylands Calm Forte, 5HTP, Unisom and I have a prescription my Dr gave me for Lunesta BUT I am stubburn and don't want to have to rely on a sleep aid (prescription) to help me sleep. I just want to sleep on my own again, I feel so broken.

I work FT and I seriously have to go to work and go home, I can't and don't do anything else "fun", I just don't have the energy but I have to go to work, who can afford to lose their job??

Anyways - anyone else have this issue? I am feeling horrid these days and feeling like it's aging me (I am sure it is since I am not getting proper rest)

What has helped you GET TO SLEEP or stay asleep?

I keep a regular sleep sched. - I always have

No Caffeine after 8am

Sleep sound machine with ocean wave & lavender oil in my room

No TV or Internet an hour+ before TV

I take relaxing baths with Lavender salts a couple hours before bed

I have read so much on it that I feel I have tried it all. Just want to know for those that TRIED IT ALL, WHat finally worked for you?? Please share Smiley Happy THANK YOU

take the Lunesta, I take one when I need to sleep, if you have to go to work how can you perform if you can get any sleep at all.

It sounds like your problem is severe so this might not help, but, try taking a bath with epsom salt. It really relaxes you. I have only taken one one time but it really did relax me. If you do try it, be careful if you have high blood pressure and are on medicine. It really brought my blood pressure down and I felt a bit dizzy. Worth a try and it is natural.

Re: Can we talk SLEEP? (Hey, it's beauty) Or, should I say Lack of It - Cannot fall asleep!

I have a really hard time sleeping lately. The other day I took a zyrtec for allergy and slept from 9 pm to 530 am LOL!!! But I wouldn't recommend.

I got a CD called Keep Calm and Carry On. It has relaxing music on it.

Sometimes watching TV in bed helps me. And saying a prayer helps. But sometimes I am exhausted and get a headache from trying to sleep and wanting to sleep.

Exercise during the day can help sometimes.

JACKTHEBEAR - It's not easy trust me, I have a very demanding job and I'm up for a promotion, that's why right now I am so focused on just work, everything and everybody else is going to have to wait, thank god I do not have children.

I don't expect you to read all the thread but I DO take the Lunesta - it just doesn't work, it doesn't get me to sleep so I don't like taking it since its not working anyway.....

I've been through the same thing. Personally, I'd take the Lunesta. Most over the counter stuff doesn't work at all or stops working after a while and felt drowsy for half the next day. I got tired of driving to and from work half asleep (not to mention it's dangerous!!) and feeling like a zombie all the time. I took what my Doctor prescribed and I felt like a million bucks.

VERY TRUE and if the Lunesta put me to sleep I would for sure take it, it only works about 20% of the time (3mg) and it produces like 1-2 hours sleep at most, but most the time I don't go to sleep with it at all.

May I ask what your Dr has you on? I am reallywilling to try anything at this point!!

Ambien is better for putting you to sleep than Lunesta in a sleep study done at Stanford.. But,as my Dr said, ambien lasts about 5 hours. . I have also found that if you have trouble going to sleep, the Ambien long acting does not work as well as the regular.

sandgirl

Please let us know what happens in the sleep study.

IDK what happened to the days when I would fall asleep at 10pm on my own and stay sound asleep until 7. Then I would wake up rested, and literally jump out of bed. What happened to me? I hate it.

One thing that helped my husband is putting a cover on the lighted digital clock. It was on his side, and usually faced him when he slept on his side. He was waking up a few times at night. I read a study that said the digital clock light stimulates your brain, like sunlight). It filters through the eyelid and can disturb sleep.

Just take a pill! I take Lorazepam (1 mg) - either 1 or 2 tabs at night. Some nights one works, other nights 2. My 60 tabs/month only costs $3.21.

Is that an OTC product?

I had a sleep study done 3 years ago and I have mild to moderate sleep apnea. I have a C-Pap now and sleep very well. I never want to be without my machine. I used to take a nap on the weekend but hardly ever do now.

Re: Can we talk SLEEP? (Hey, it's beauty) Or, should I say Lack of It - Cannot fall asleep!

Sandgirl you sound EXACTLY like me! I am 55 and my sleep problems began about your age. I just figured it was perimenopausa but it has gotten much worse since I hit menopause a year ago. Most of the time I can't get to sleep then I only can sleep 2 hours at the most, usually go back to sleep but not for over 2 hours. I work a very physically demanding job and am like you-WAY too exhausted to go have fun. It is beyond frustrating!!!! I've tried everything also, except for prescription things. I'm very stubborn that way, probably more than I should be! Oh ,and to top off my horrible nights my 13 year old lab has started wanting out during the night-and its usually at a point when I actually am sleeping! Anyway please keep us informed if you find what works or if it is thyroid or something. Think I will get mine checked. One more thing- I don't know about you but I pretty much get stressed when I get in bed just thinking about the awful night I'm in for and I'm sure that doesn't help! Sorry but I could ramble on & on about sleep problems....ugh!! Wishing you well and SLEEP!!
